How Many Planes?
« on: February 26, 2009, 06:22:31 PM »
On a hunch, I decided to give y'all a chance to prove yourselves.....I had a favorable comment about my planes hanging in my "room" which doubles as my office.....now...... I almost sensed a degree of sadness, that; "....I used to have..."  planes hanging in his voice. So, just out of a wicked sense of curiosity, how many of you can man up and say you have planes hanging in your living space? I'm not a bit ashamed to say I have, my grand kids literally love my space....and quite a number of my friends do to. I like it because they don't collect nearly as much dust in here. So let's hear it, and a picture to back it up! :##

Being that space in my home is at a premium, I've always used my airplanes as wall art. It helps that I live alone I guess, I don't think a wife would put up with it.

Her're some pics showing my "Wall Art".

I don't have any good pictures of the planes hanging on the wall of my grandfather's workshop.  His shop is about 20ft by 10ft with 8ft ceilings.  He can fit up to 9 fully intact stuntships in there.  We are now running low on space so he has a loft in his bedroom and he now has, I think 4 to 5 stuntships in the loft.  We have even migrated out to the garage where we have my first airplane and a Bi-slob in there.  In the boiler room, we have our RC planes that haven't been flown for 3 years and his Score taken apart.

Here is a list of the planes in our workshop:

1. P-47 Razorback - finishing
2. Brodak P-40 - finishing
3. P-51 Mustang - finishing
4. P-51 Mustang - refinishing
5. Big Job - finished
6. My Ares - waiting for hardware then comes to my house
7. My Oriental Plus - constructing
8. Wicked Witch F-86 - constructing

A list of planes in the loft:

1. F-14 Tomcat II - finished
2. F-14 Tomcat - waiting for rebuilt PA .40
3. P-40 - finished
4. Starfire, his own design, maybe Randy Smith stole his name - finishing
5. Black Tiger - fixing the horns since it has 1/4 inch of slop in the controls

List of planes in the garage and Burner room:

1. My Smoothie - first plane engine getting taken out to go in Ares
2. Bi-Slob - just needs an engine
3. RC Cap 232 - ready to fly
4. RC Aerobat - ready to fly
5. RC Hog Bipe - ready to fly
6. Score - taken apart for storage

List of planes at my house:

1. Brodak Fw-190 - ready to fly
2. Brodak Smoothie - ready to fly
3. Ares - comes home today

That is a total of 21 stuntships hanging on the walls of my house and my grandfather's house

Nice collection of planes John!

I used to have a lot of planes all over the place at our old house, my back room in the basement was all planes, balsa, engines, wing jig, foam coring table ………………. When I sold everything to buy a tractor the guy that bought everything had to make two trips with his MAXI van, I did not realize I had so much airplane equipment!

Sadly I turn the workshop into a man cave and then sold the house.

When I showed my grandson the pictures of the Ice O Lated contest he asked if I was ever going to start building and flying again, I have been looking around for some used stuff to see if I can get back in and help my grandson build and fly also.

Mike because you are a old friend (and I do mean old) LOL, I will donate enough wood to build a plane. This is my second choice wood so its not the top of this line, still better than you will find at you local Hobby Shop. Just let me know when you will be in town. Nothing has changed you know I share.

I also have many tanks and wheels spinners and stuff neeeded. Engines are slim as I have gone to all PA's.

Thanks Bob!

I definitely was bit by the bug this past weekend. What I missed most was the friendship of all the great people in hobby and in the area.

Matt Colan...........that's an impressive list. When do you plan to have them all restored to flying condition? Are you gonna post pics of each as you bring them back to life? I'm ready to see some of those planes. #^

I have 11 planes that are flyable and they are hanging in the upstairs part of the house. some are kits but I am most proud of the six that are my own designs. I have plans to build more but It is getting a little crowded so will be forced to slow down on building and do more flying.

Being single, I have planes in my living room that just sit on the floor - they are electric though so no fuel, no smell.
Still full size stunters though.

I jump in here just to ease the mind of many of you that thinks you have to many airplanes. (SHOW THIS TO YOUR WIFE AND SHE WILL NOT FEEL SO BAD). I build for
R W Howe and this is one of the two rooms, the shop is 800 sq. ft. and its fun to have this kind of hobby environment. Oh, I must mention, he has a very nice paved circle just 100 yards from the building. Many who have come to the "Nats" have seen this for themselves. Enjoy.

Blessings
Allen

P.S. I only have 10 airplanes myself.

None, I'm afraid, in the house. The shop and detached garage are about 70 feet away and the shop has 4 or 5 planes in it right now in various stages. Fight ready, in need of repair or under construction.

Only 5 from that list are my planes.  The Ares, the Oriental Plus, the 2 Smoothies and the Fw-190.  The Oriental Plus I just started construction on and will post pics when I get a little farther in building.  The rest of them are all my grandfather's.  I have flown most of the ones that are flying and he says he isn't going to build anymore planes, just finish up the 10 or so other ones basically ready for paint.

I currently have 4 CL Stunt planes and one RC glider hanging in my
guest bedroom, approximately 90 1/32 slot cars, several HLGs, and
several 1/24 scale plastic model cars in the den, 5 boxed slot
car boxed car sets (2 or more cars) in the living room, and 11 CL Stunt
planes hanging in the garage. And, 2 stunt planes under construction.

Pretty cool, Steve...I used to race slot cars[1/24th scale]...won many trophys in the nascar division and the indy car as well. I loved the enduro races that ran for hours, and allowed 3 cars per team and 3 drivers. I sold more car bodies that I painted in threes that I did single car bodies....we lost our track to bankruptcy.

In addition to full size stunters, at my house I have a bunch of plastic model cars and aircraft.  I have a 1/8 scale 1932 Ford Deuce Custom.  I painted it in Acrylic Laquer 1984 Ford Blue.  I entered the car in the Stowe car show (the biggest one in Vermont) ind the model show.  That plane won 1st place in my class.  Believe me it looks like the real thing.

When I was single many moons(years) ago, Mother let me hang my Nobler in the living room.  When I got married the wife let me hang it in the living room.  Then she decided to paint the living room and I will not leave another plane in the house.  She left little white spots all over a blue Nobler.  DOC Holliday
