Hello everyone,

New to the forms here as well as control line flying. I’m very lucky to be a member of the same club as Allen Brickhaus and Charlie Reeves, both of which have gone out of their way to help me. I was also fortunate to have contacted Randy Smith at Aeroproducts who has been very helpful and willing to listen to and answer several dumb questions I have had.

Here are some pic’s my first day flying. In one picture Jim Nohsey is the one flying, Kenny Coleson is still dizzy

, and I am trying to keep my pants up while chasing Jim. Thanks also to Jim who was willing to put his plane at risk several times.

Welcome, Tim!

Ask all the questions you need to. And NEVER think that they might be DUMB questions. We all had to learn in the beginning!

Many of the guys here will "bust you chops" a touch, but those are usually the ones who will help the most. Just think of it as sort of an initiation!

Tim is with a bunch of very talented R/C modelers and yes, we get along with the radio guys here in western Kentucky. Wish it were this good in other places.

Well, Paul, I agree with having Sir Charles of Reeves close by as being a benefit........... but Brickhaus?

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I do hope Allen and Charlie can put up with me while I’m learning.

We are going to have at least six, if not eight people in our area building new planes or repairing old ones. So everybody better get ready, as you can tell by the photos we’ll be on the contest trail in a week …two tops.

Ask Allen and/or Charles to bring you guys to the Central Alabama Stunt Squadron contest at Clanton, Al on the first weekend in Nov. You will enjoy!!

Just kidding. Welcome to a great sport/hobby with great people and you happen to be on the greatest forum. I solved the "keeping the pants up" thing by wearing bib overalls and yes I do look like I just fell of the old mule. A side benefit is that it somewhat camouflages my big belly.

Welcome Tim and co-horts, Allen and Charles two of the greastest in this hobby/sport. My cure to keeping pants up was suspenders. Somewhere in time my hip bones disappeared and belts started giving me problems. Hope to meet all you guys down the road. Also what ever either one of them tell you about me is probably true. Have fun, DOC Holliday

Welcome aboard! I too, just got back into c/l last year. This forum has been a saver for me.
I do my flying on my NW Tenn. farm, maybe not too far from you. My field is about 20 minutes from Murray, KY. Kind of in between Paris, TN and Murray. Maybe some time we can meet and get together and crash planes! At least that is what I do, mostly.

Hey Jim,

We will be flying R/C and control line in Puryer, TN Sunday at Frank Thill's farm. I live in Mayfield, KY and fly behind my house and also by the Mayfield airport. Their are several people around Puryer flying r/c, and hopefully will be flying control line soon.

Not sure what happened. Turned 40 and my butt disappeared for awhile then reappeared above my belt and on the wrong side of my body. I do realize several jokes could be made here

Tim,

Don't worry about Allen, some of us have put him through the ringer for years (I think he usually tells me [and my brother in law] a minimum of 5 to 10 times, sometimes going into years, before we hit our head on the wall enough for our ears to pop out). Love ya Allen, you're a patient guy.

Tim did not tell you that he "soloed" on that flight in Paducah. He handled it very well. We replaced a metal tank with a better plastic tank and the OS Max 46 la needled very well.

Hello to everyone out there!

Tim Garland and Jim Nohsey have got me hooked on the C/L planes.

Jim was nice enough to let me try out his plane up at Tim's house the other week, and it just brought back too many memories of being a kid with the .049 Cox engines and "LiL Satin" planes. So.........I managed to purchase a 20 year old Shoestring with an OS Maxx 35 open exhaust engine on it. Tim helped me out the other evening setting it up and getting it running and I soloed it!

Now I can't wait to actually learn what I'm supposed to be doing..

Looking forward to meeting Allen this weekend up at Paducah. Hopefully he can put up with us RC'ers.

Tim and I are fixin' to be disowned by some fellow transmitter jockies I think.

I am very, very close to you. However, I actually live in FL (Jacksonville), but do my building and flying at the farm in Buchanan, Tenn. I will be up there end of this month. I'll drop you a note. Maybe we can do some circles. I finally have my flying field in seed and it should be usable in a few weeks.

Glad to here that I am not the only one that is now misshaped and getting older. I call It my retirement platform. Well maybe that is too political. At least you have some great guys to get help from. They weren't around when I was starting, I was just learning how to make dirt.

Here are a few more pictures from the Paducah fly-in. I had a good time and was able to learn a lot over the two days.

Allen, I was able to get 4 flights in this afternoon using the stooge. I have started 8's, inside, and outside loops, and wing overs. I need a backup plane bad.

Hate to here that, what happened..... Frank is probably cleaning the grass of the rudder on his plane about now

. He started doing figure 8's.... well maybe not when he started, but got there after a few flights. Allen was able to make it out today as well, amazing to watch him fly

Cleaning green off the rudder and a different color out of my drawers!

That was just a bit too close for comfort....Ah well, nothing ventured, nothing gained.... I think I'm starting to sound like RR.

Had a great time today, and as always, learned a few things along the way.
