Halitosis? Cured!
« on: April 09, 2010, 09:00:18 AM »
What, have I got bad breath?

At least two weeks ago I sent out inquiries to three differant model related vinyl sign makers for some lettering to put on my Primary Force. OK, I got three responses..." I'll get back to you".

Nada!

Granted, I was asking for an odd ball font, BOOPEE, (came with my Windows Vista) but they could have said "no".

I have even sent second and third call-ups, and still no answer...

Does anyone know a reliable vinyl cutter?

I have had good luck with local sign shops.  Ask for low-tack vinyl.

You can check with Jim Snelson at Control Line Central. You can tag his homepage right from this site.

Also, like some others say, check your local sign shops that can do stuff in vinyl, (which is almost all of them anymore). The key is having a bit of artistic sense yourself and then being able to describe exactly what you're after, including required material types, to the sign maker who hopefully has some artistic sense as well. Unless you can show it to them and/or sketch it out, you need to be able to picture in you're head what you're after and be able to describe it in detail. I'm lucky to have a buddy that's in the business in my area. I just pencil sketch out what I'm after, give him dimensions, and he whips my stuff out.

I have had good luck with local sign shops.  Ask for low-tack vinyl.

Low-tack vinyl for masks, I assume? For lettering to stick right on the airplane, we would want hi-tack?

Looking at some of the signs we have had made, the thickness of the vinyl seems to vary. Does anyone know how the caliper of signmaker vinyl compares to, say, Monokote or Coverite trim sheets?

The local signmaker option seems a "low hassle" solution

I've had sort of the same experience around here.  The laser cut sign shops seem to have enough money-is-not-object commercial business, they don't seem to care much for a small order where the customer is cost conscious.

Ward,...

I've used Kirby's Kustom Vinyl Graphics for years and have always been satisfied with their product and service.  In fact they did some graphics for my Primary Force!!  Dennis Kirby is a great guy to work with.  He has created logos and graphics for me form everything form a pencil sketch on the back of a napkin to digital image.  I'm sure he can cut anything you or Vista could dream up, ha!!

Check them out,...

Sincerely,

Ward - "Tags Plus" over here in South Lakeland does this for guys in my club.  I've spoke to him several times ... very personable and identifies with the modeler.  From what I've seen, he does good work and no complaints from the guys that use him. He charges a flat fee of 1.00 per inch.  Doesnt matter the design. If ya want to go further with this, let me know at my email addy.

Well, after two more internet failures (this is getting frustrating/boring!) Jim Snelson of CLC got back to me. What with sickness in the family, and a bad case of the "busys" on his real job they really got behind. But they didn't have that silly BOOPEE font that I wanted. Well, guess what? They went out to the web and found a free downloadable copy and sent me samples! While I don't have my signage yet, I have placed an order with Jim and Emily!

Wow! What service!

P' Force signage arrived yesterday from Emily and Jim Snelson. Perfectly executed, and in my stupid BOOPEE font!

Tanks a bunch folks. You're great!
