While at the Brodak event, I met Jim Silhavy (sp?)....John had his GYPSY.....
I understand that John Brodak plans to release a laser cut version soon......John's  prototype looks great.

Always liked that design - have the plans, never built. Do you know if it will be the 35 sized or the larger (46?) sized Gypsy? Both were published a few years back in Flying Models.  8)

I'm fairly positive it's the larger version. I got some pictures of Jim and John with their Gypsy's I'll post tomorrow.

The one in the shop at Brodaks was the smaller one, had a fox 35 in it. I have never flown the 35 size but have many flights on the 46 one, and it is a very good plane I am sure the smaller one will fly very well and a great option for a classic airplane that is offered in kit form.

Here's a couple pictures of John Brodaks Gypsy and Jim Silhavy's original.

I was sort of hoping for the larger version but the smaller version with an Aero-Tiger or similar will be a top contender as well.  I'm in. 8)

...or a Brodak 40 (sorry 'bout the oversight John).  8)

This is Alan Resinger's .46 sized Gypsy. It's powered by a Stalker .61, and has been a contender in Classic events in the NW for a couple of years. Very pretty color combination and graphics!  y1 Steve

A 46 Gypsy is NOT Classic legal.  Jim used an ST40 powered version, about the same size as the 3rd (blue) 35 version (about 600 squares) that I think would fall into the Classic era.

Dennis,
I built 2 of the 46 sized Silhavy "Gypsy" models.  The first was built in 2003 and I contacted Jim for information on the model.  He assured me that it was designed and built prior to the Jan. 1970 cut off date.  The first had a Tiger 46 and painted like the original.  I used it for several years in the Pacific Northwest.  If it isn't legal you better tell Frank Mac Millen as he used one a few years ago at VSC.

Big and small versions at today's flying session. Red one belongs to Joe Reinhard and the other to myself.
