Here's a tip for you, John: When wearing insulated gloves in 0 deg. F. conditions, pull them off about 1/2", so that there is an air pocket at the fingertips. Mucho warmer! I figured this out on a Boyscout campout with my son. It was midnight, full moon, 0 F. and we were hiking around the scout camp to stay warm. My fingertips were getting cold, but pulling them down and creating an air gap at the end helped tremendously.
We had a few volunteers in the cabin (thankfully, no tent BS) trying to get the wood stove going. The firewood was frozen, and they wouldn't use my bag of magnesium chips.
