Go Big !!! Wahoo!!!!
« on: August 30, 2006, 12:33:05 PM »
Well today was the perfect day to fly. Over cast skys, low temps with 5~10 mph winds. In hopes of weather like this today, I had Ole Yeller in the car. I put up three flights today on my lunch break.
I did three big out side loops!!!! First time for me.

Everyone keeps telling me to "Go Big". So today I used all the air space in front of me. Man it made a difference. I did clip a few of them and made a few small loops. But I knew it was wrong and tried to make the next few loops big. I also tried a few square loops. Not sure I pulled one off but it was  inside loops with some flat spots on them.

Wahoo!!! 3 Outsides !!! #^ #^ #^

Way to go.  Before long you will be beating me as my flying partner is doing now.  Makes me feel good knowing I can help someone improve on their flying.  DOC Holliday

Way to go Paul,
Your coming right along.  Must have been the practice with the super Skyray in Portland.  I am working again on the Skyray that I am scratch building.  I have made a few changes but nothing big.  Maybe it will be ready for you next time you come to Portland.

It is all good. Thanks for the words of advice Doc.

Art, I did enjoy your SkyRay, but did not want to get wild with your nice looking SkyRay.
Mine is getting tattered and some of the red trim monokote is coming off. Looks kind of like a beater, but I like it. The Fox Head is all black too.
Art has a real nice setup on his SkyRay. LA .25 that has been reworked by Scott Riese.
And the plane is done up real nice and neat. Plugged right along.

Chris, I started high. I can get about two laps inverted and I start to fill dizzy. Not sure why.

Look out Mr. Walker!

Rotating the opposite direction will make you dizzy, or dizzier, faster. With most people, the more you do it, the less of a problem it becomes. When it gets to be comfortable to fly inverted for 10 laps or so, that's enough. Don't get nutso and start checking your stopwatch or calling somebody on your cell phone!  **) Steve

Paul,

You are the MAN.  I could tell by the sound of your voice it was starting to click and come together.  Congratulations again and keep up the good work. ;D

I wish I had time on my lunch break to fly.  I end up talking on the phone between bites!

Hi Paul,

It has been great following you, and your son's, progress!  I know you will be moving up and flying the whole pattern before too long.

Just remember to always have fun while you're at it.   y1

Remember, a square loop is just a poorly-flown round loop. ;D

Paul,

Congrats. All of us (including PW) have been there and can relate.  #^

Even if you can only fly one lap inverted, my advice would be to start your outsides from the inverted position and recover upright. You will get more comfortable flying "bass-ackwards" and will progress faster.

Oh yes, in the immortal words of Mr. Albrittain to a teenage flying fool (me), "Why are your loops that small? You are the only one out there. The whole sky is yours!"

Take care and have fun.

My favorite maneuver is the giant lazy 8. Mow the grass upright, go over the top of the circle, Go inverted, mow the grass inverted and repeat. Alright,.... almost mow the grass.
