Back in 1993 my son, Robby decided that he wanted a ship that had the Geo-XL aesthetics, but didn't want a full-sized one. We worked together to design his Geo-Star, which ultimately placed first in Senior Stunt at the 1995 Nats, and was also the model he flew to third in Junior at the 1994 World Championships in China.
Billy just loved the downsized model, which had 630 square inches of area. He also loved the fact that Robby chose a paint scheme very similar to the actual Geo-XL. In fact, both Robby and I used that scheme for our new ships that year. I had built a new Saturn to use at the 1994 World Championships, but decided to use my old "Bronze Dog" Saturn for that contest instead, as the new Saturn was not fully trimmed by time to leave. Robby and I made a trip out to Billy's field just before leaving for the WC's for a long trimming session with "The Man," and Billy really concentrated on helping Robby get the Geo-Star ready to go. He loved the way it flew, and so did I. In fact, that model's "mannequin of numbers" was the basis for my later Genesis Extreme.
Robby worked off of a set of pencil drawings to produce the Geo-Star, and we have toyed with the idea of doing a full set of inked plans for that ship. That may happen soon... The Geo-Star featured a Lost-Foam, Warren Truss built-up wing, and it was powered by an OPS 40 SPA engine. If we were to reprise it now, it would most certainly be electric powered. Great ship, great memories...
