Great to see Walt Ghio in there in Beginner!  For those unaware, Walt is (and for many years has been) a #1 Free Flight Wakefield competitor.

Yup, and one hell of a nice guy. Walt was the co-CD on this contest with me. Couldn't have done it without him.

Hmmmm Wake Flyers attracted to Stunt???  Go figger, I was, I still fly FF too. The late Jim Brooks was a Wake flyer too and Ronnie Thompson is an AMA FF power flyer.

Hi Larry:

Great pics for those who couldn't be there Sunday. Whose model is the DH Comet?

Hi Mike,

That is Carter Fickes's and it flies beautifully at 100-120 oz's! It has retracts and looks very good in the air. He proved that they worked perfectly by landing inverted so we could see them standing up  ;D ;D

Even better, nice to know that Carter is not dead!  Last time I saw him, that was a distinct possibility. Can't let a little thing like a *ruptured aorta* while you are *flying* stand in your way!

Yes, Carter thinks way, way outside the box and his models are always distinctive. Nice to see that he has kept HIMSELF "outside the box," which as noted was way too close for comfort.

How does the Comet fly, apart from unorthodox landings? Alignment of the motors (looks IC) must have been daunting on a self designed scratch build project.

Mike, I have observed about every flight of this airplane (all six or so of them). Don't quote me on this but I believe that power is two LA-40 or 46's. Needless to say, there is plenty of line tension. Trimming is coming along although it has not flown the full pattern yet. It may not be the world beater that Paul Walker's B-17 was but with the retract gear etc. it is a very impressive model. This is the third scale stunter w/retracts Carter has built. 8)

Oh, chit! Dad had a ruptured aorta, in '82. They said the odds were 1% of getting to the hospital alive, and of those, 1% lived to get into surgery. They didn't volunteer what the odds of surviving surgery were, for some reason, but it seems to me like the chances cumulate and are basically slim to none. Good to hear that Carter is still with us.  y1
