Fuel tank size for a ST.51
« on: September 23, 2010, 06:03:31 PM »
I am getting ready to try my first built up fuselage.  Probably a "scratch" plane with moments close to a Shark 45.  I have a new (bought about a year ago) ST .51.  Never been run or worked on.  Because of space constraints, a 6 oz fuel tank would be preferable but I don't know if that will get me through the pattern.  Any thoughts?

A 6 oz. should be fine. I used a 5 1/2 oz. for the pattern on my ST51.

I ran a ST 51 reworked (one by Randy and the other by Byron Barker) and a 6 ounce was more than enough.

I'll make it unanimous and concur on the 6 ounce tank if there is room in the fuselage for one. If it is a stock engine, you will probably be using 4 to 4.5 ounces, depending on temp, altitude, etc. My Shark 45 only had room for a 5 ounce metal tank with out serious rework, and I only have to fill it in the coolest of weather.
Good luck with the project and have fun!
