Forum tech help
« on: June 09, 2017, 02:03:39 AM »
Ok, let us assume for a moment that you have in your midst a member who is, we will be polite, very computer illiterate.  Said member would like to post pictures, but for the life of him cannot discern just how.....
Can anyone please explain this process in a manner that a man with an analog brain (term used loosely) can understand?  Tried looking in the Help section, saw nothing that helped.

Thanks

To attach pictures to a post, the picture needs to be smaller than 1000kb.
Right click on your pictures, select "properties" and check the size.  Resize as necessary.

If that is resolved, then click on "Additional Options" on the lower left below this box.  Select "choose file" and locate the picture file location on your computer.
Click "Post" to complete the process.

Alternately, your can have your picture hosted externally and then insert the picture link between these brackets [img)] yourimage.blah [(/img]

You can download a great free image program http://www.irfanview.com/   with this program you can easily change the size of picutres, change the color depth... it has a save for the web setting...   Many phones or cameras make huge pixel count pictures...  you can remaster to something like 640x480 or something and change the color depth to 256 from 32 million colors... these 2 operations can take a 4 or 5 MB picture down to 40 or 50 kb...  they will still look great on the internet...
Hope this helps  :-)

This is a great resource to resize your pictures.  http://www.picresize.com
Just follow the prompts and it is quite easy.

If your computer store your digital photos, it should also have a resize program.   Depending on photos downloaded from camera it may take several tries to get them small enough.   But if you set the size of photos in your camera it shouldn't take much.  My main computer is HP.

If you have Microsoft Office, then you also have "Microsoft Office Picture Manager." Nothing is simpler to use than that program.

Right-click any picture in a folder, select "Open With" > MS Picture Manager > Resize... pick one of the preset size options. Click "Okay." Then, "Save as..." I save it to my desktop so it's easy to locate for inserting in the forum post. I also add "sm" to its name so next time I'll know it's already been web sized.

Then when you close the program, it'll ask if you want to save the new settings to the original too. I usually say "No."

Hope that also helps.
