Windy Urtnowski just emailed me concerning the Skyraider. "Drop that wing and put the dihedral in!!!!!!" He actually used more exclamation points then that. There seems to be a consensus among the Walker Cup guys for the "real deal" on the Skyraider. But, attached are pictures of how I wanted to roll on this one. I think Kaz has got a pretty decent looking ship here and, I definitely feel like I could build this-no problem. That said, I could whip out my Al Rabe articles and bust out a super duper version for you hard core guys.

  The only problem I had with Kaz's Hellcat is the nose is too long. Even for a stunt semi scale stunt model, which is usually sort of a characature of the real airplane, it's a little too long to hold the flavor of the Hellcat, but that's just me. I didn't get to see the model personally, but I understand it was a 19 or 20 pointer? And it's performance certainly speaks for itself. If I were to do a Hellcat or a Skyraider like Milton, I would go four stroke and have the weight figured into a proper nose moment to help balance it out. I also love the ADs! I have a Midwest kit to copy one of these days, and my favorite scheme is the one with the bumble bee sliding down the tail and dorsel fin, which has been posted in the other thread.

The rough work on the Skyraider is finished. Screenshots are over at the CAD forum. The next several days will be spent doing detail work and preparing the auxillary views for Tania to do her Inventor magic,(she is so talented!)

 Kaz's Hellcat is an incredible original design model which is immaculately built and finished, and is also a very competitive flyer. None of that can be debated.
 
 Anyone who knows anything about the semi-scale stunt game, especially when it comes to design, also knows that there are many considerations and  compromises that need to be made to end up with a "believable", recognizable, and yet competitive model. The design decisions are made by determining and committing to what the absolute priorities are for the finished model, whether it be all out competition, or a museum quality scale appearance. Finding that balance takes a keen eye, and quality time in designing. When the priority is stunt competition, finding that overall balance is even more difficult. Kaz's Hellcat is a perfect example of an instantly recognizable design that is dressed in a full-blown stunt model's clothing. Overall, that Hellcat is incredibly well done, and very tough to top.

That is why Al Rabe's CD's are invaluable.  He goes through the procedures and thoughts on his semi scale planes he competed with and also won with.   Yes he did fudge here and there on some of the dimensions, but they look like they could win any local scale meet if they had throttle control.

Yep it looks like a "Sandy", I was on a Sandy base in Thailand during the Vietnam war.  There is one problem, if you put a scale finish on it you will get zero appearance points.  In their war colors they didn't shine or look purity.  But they were a hell-of-a plane, just ask any of the downed pilots they saved.
