After a couple of days of rain and cold weather, we got lucky and went out to the field (my backyard) for some flying. My grandfather brought out his F-14 Tomcat designed by Vic Macaluso. I flew my Ares and my Smoothie. Grandpa flew first with the F-14 powered by a PA 40. After that flight he decided that it needed a tank shim. I flew the Smoothie next and put it through a good 480ish pattern with pattern points (so a good 455ish pattern). After that Grandpa went back to get a handle so I cut the grass.
He got back and he flew the F-14 again with a different handle just for the heck of it. I then brought out my Ares to see what I could do about the engine. First flight the motor was not running steady at all. Next flight I took muffler pressure off and the steady run came back, but the tank shim wasn't right.
While picking up and cleaning the planes off, I told Grandpa to tweak the flaps and he tweaked them a little too far. While tweaking the flaps, the flap cracked about a foot down it. Now while I am going away on vacation, he is going to fix the flap.
