Flight Streak question
« on: September 01, 2018, 02:40:47 PM »
I just read that the Flight Streak was first marketed in the 50's.  Is it then OTS legal?

No, but it is Classic legit. Came out in '58, as I recall. I got a Fox .15 steel fin and Jr. Flt. Streak for Christmas. It flew very well. Built a new one in '60 and it was a squirrely SOB. Never did get it to fly decently, and I did a lot better job of building on it. I don't recall what happened to the first one. Flew it in the Field House in Pullman a bunch!  ;D Steve

The Flite Streak might have come out earlier than 58'.
Here I am in the middle holding my Flite Streak with Fox 35 Combat Special Black Head on pressure.
Pretty hot stuff for a 15 year old.
The picture was taken at a contest at old Tulsa Glue Dobbers field.

I attended the United States Golf Association that year and I stabbed trash during the event.
I had at least 4 Flite Streaks and this and the shirt puts the FS at least 58' but likely earlier.

If anyone that was in the Tulsa area during that time.....try to remember the name of the guy on the right.....I forgot.

I still have that shirt....if you can believe that!
I think it shrunk though.....kaff....kaff....

I'm sure I flew my first flite-Streak in the summer of 1957, just before moving from Kansas City to Chicago for a short time.  Hence it was available in 1957.  Probably not before that!  I know that I got the first kit that came into Ace Hobby in K.C. in July (my birthday), of 1957.

I don't want to be picky, but that looks like a Ringmaster.

Frank....It HAS been 60 years ago but I have a good memory....especially about model airplanes that I built.
Perhaps you are only looking at the wingtip which is different....note that the wing has the correct number of ribs and trailing edge.
I never had a profile Ringmaster....but I did build a Super Ringmaster which was little more than a rock on a string.

I realize that you don't want to be picky but...for your inspection...here is a pix I took yesterday of the same shirt.

Randy you remember the kid that kept irritating people running a McCoy Redhead 35 on a Guillows Rat Racer?  I remember you, Walter, Al, Gene and a couple of others with the new Flight Streaks that had ply full length of fuse for combat strength.  But people tell me the McCoy I had did not exist at that period of time.  Remember Charley's Hobby Shop always got stuff in as soon as the local supply house would get them.  Seems we in the flying Eagles would get kits and engines before anybody else in town.   By the way Mr. Brooks test flew that plane of mine.  Took me up on second flight and after two laps said I was on my own.  Has it really been that long ago?  I do remember flying my Flight Streak in the hay field where we lived in Bethel KS.   ???
