Need Profile Recomendations for OS46FX
« on: March 01, 2018, 01:01:42 PM »
Would any of you out there know of a good profile kit that would be big enough for an OS46FX?  I really like the Cardinal but it seems a bit small and I don't think I can make up for the added weight of the FX.  I don't know what is really out there.  Are there short kits or wing kits available?   My biggest problem is not having a place to properly jig a wing of this size until later this year.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Although I'm no "expert", I suppose any of the newer 40 sized kits would do.  Just curious, although you mentioned kit, are you experienced in scratch building?  If so, allow me to recommend a plan for a model called the Big Tiger designed by a fellow named Claus Mikias.  There's a fellow selling the plan on E-Bay if you want to look it over.

I am so stuck on this plane that my friends think I'm crazy.  I've built six of them so far, two of which I still fly, the others I've sold plus building 3 separate wings that I've sold for guys to use as replacements on their planes.  Granted I did make a couple of minor changes from the original plans but they were minimal at best.

Mike Griffin can get you a kit of the Mo' Best. 58 inch wing. Top notch balsa and parts, flys very well.
I may be wrong but I doubt it.

I agree there are a number of great large profiles available and Walt Umland  builds great kits as well as Pat King.   Pat has a line of various size Flite Streaks for different size engines.

I think the Pathfinder is a little bigger than the Cardinal from Brodak's. As mentioned the Mo Best is a great choice,

Might look at this one. Profile Cardinal 55" span and 555 sq in area.

I'm no expert but looks like it might fit your plan.

Hands down best flying kit would be the Imitation, will fly way better and have more wing area and be lighter :)

I looked at a couple of them and it does look like it might handle the extra weight and HP of the FX and quite frankly, it looks like something I would design.

How about a "Berserker"...PAMPA plans...I believe it used a foam wing. It was designed for a ST .60 but the .46FX weighs about the same and puts out at least as much "power" if you run around 4" pitch props.  H^^ Steve

Agreed.  Go get yourself an Imitation kit from Mike Griffin.
