Profile Stunt
All PAMPA events - Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert

Fox 35 Speed
Perky Speed

Yes it has been raining here but the Meramec river is only at 5 feet so NO the site will not be flooded. It will be wet so bring a pair of old shoes and then change into dry shoes at the end of the day. the field is in great shape and the square pad and do-nut are smooth and have been sealed. the square pad was paved with a new layer of asphalt last summer. The forecast is for sunny skies, 55 deg and light winds.

Hope to see everyone there!
Fred

Well the old DOC had thought about charging the battery in the pit box until I noticed the Suburban was sitting lopsided in the drive.  Finally went out to look to see if front tire was flat.   Good thing grand daughter was already gone as both right side tires and rims are destroyed.  The side view mirror is almost finished that I tried last year in trying to destroy it on a utility pole.   Hate to think of damage to front end.   But, when she came home tonight I asked if she was alright.   Seems she swerved to keep from running over a dog that was in the road.    Any way that is her story.  Just need to contact insurance company.  So don't for get the pictures of contestants and planes. H^^

No I haven't killed her yet. D>K

As Fred stated, the weather outlook is pretty good. It has been gray, gloomy and rainy here for the whole week. The river is not a problem as it was pretty low when the rains started. It is coming up but is only at 9 feet tonight, and doesn't get to minor flood stage until 16 feet and is expected to crest Tuesday at 15 feet, so no flooding worries and no cold  or freezing worries. WE DESERVE THIS SUNDAY!  y1 y1 Hthere is minor flooding south of here so anyone heading into town, check your road conditions.

When are you guys gonna raise that park up?  :)

Well, the rumor that the Parks Department wants to sell the property, and that it could be raised, comes around every now and then. You have been here and may remember the truck stop that is right by the river where I-44 passes over it? Well that little section was raised above flood level to where you see it now for that little development!
We got the contest in, with the weather being entirely acceptable for late February. Jerod Hays, and another gentleman whose name escapes me right now made the trip from Omaha, Nebraska and Dayton, Ohio, respectively, and a great time was had by all. The river did come up, and crested today at 22 feet, which put water in the park up to where the little zig zag is in the rode back to the R/C area, and is supposed to drop fast. The weather is supposed to be decent again this weekend, and the park should be open. Fred will post some pics as soon as he can.

Ooh, hope they never decide to sell the park.

They tried to sell the park years ago, but the Buder's had written a clause into their donation that it was to be used for model aviation.

They tried to sell the park years ago, but the Buder's had written a clause into their donation that it was to be used for model aviation.

That is what we have heard for as long as I can remember. I don't know about it ever being put on the market, but it has always been believed that when Lydia Buder donated the land to the Parks Department, it was for use for model airplanes, and if it ever was to be turned over for any other use, it would revert back to the family. The Buder family were almost all lawyers and judges, so it sort of makes sense. When ever presented with this question, the Parks Department denies it, but won't let anyone see the deed of trust for the property. I think anyone who was around at the time it was acquired has passed away. The Parks Director at the time was Wayne Kennedy, and he passed away recently also. He was director for many, many years and became known for getting people to donate land to the department for parks, and Buder Park was one of the first. Millions and millions of dollars of land and thousands of acres. There was a six page cover story article in a 1961 issue of American Modeler magazine that is on our club website that has the story of the beginnings of The Greater St. Louis Modeling Association and Buder Park. All disciplines of model aviation are flown there, R/C, C/L, Free Flight, Rockets, Kites, even Frisbees! Burt Rutan was a just out of college aeronautical engineer doing spin and recovery work for McDonnell-Douglas and flew the proof of concept model for his Vari-Viggen and others at Buder Park. Lots of model history there!
