The first one is not scanned but I should be able to find several others

This is Dondi Garrison he won several NATs championships with the 40 Vector Smith AT 36 powered

The second Picture is a full sized Vectors built in the late 80s powered by Royal 45. It was built by Lanny Castleberry, flew very well.
Dale Barry and Jim Rettick did very well at the NATs with theirs also

Nope,

That's not the very first Vector. Tom Dixon has it on his plans list and I have a copy of it. The very first Vector was powered with something like on of those old powerhouse .40's and had a span about 57" or so. It was a lot bigger plane than the current Vector .40. Ask Randy Smith, I'm sure he remembers it. It also had a removable wing!

Jim Pollock, I guess I'll have to look up my plans but they were circa 1989 or so.

Got the plans out.

It also has a forward jet style canopy. Randy, remember this one. The plans Tom drew say that you designed it and he modified it for the removable wing. It won a contest in Fla. in Nov 89 I think.

Tom Dixon had nothing to do with the Vector except that he built and competed with one, he did very well with it too.
Tom just took it upon himself to figure that since he built my plane ,and made it with a take off wing ,he could draw it up and sell the plans

Dale Barry , Carl Raichle , Randy Smith, Ron Farmer ,Jim Rettick and many more people built them back when I first designed it. They used everything from ST 46s to HP 40s to Royal and OS 40 and 45s.

Here is a nice 40 size that Steve built

Hi Jim

Yep I remember Tom's Vector, He used a Royal\Magnum OS clone 40 or 45 in it, He later ran it with a CF tuned pipe.
His was silver and had orange trim.

I am sure that many people can post pictures of the Vectors they have built, It is great to see them, I really enjoy seeing people having fun with the ship

Hi Jim

The first version was Eliptical, The first ones you see here were 630 to 640 sq inches, and 57 or so wing span. The later 40 sized ones I drew up for smaller engines to make a Nobler sized airplane, It was this version that Curt Contrada and myself worked with John Brodak on To make the Vector 40 kit..and later the ARC , ARF.
It is also the same one that earlier Dondi Garrison built flew and won a ton of NATs hardware with, Then along came Rob Gruber

No Not yet but there are many SV ships that are from 35 to 65 sized, 559 sq in , 725 sq , 700 sq , and 675 sq in

The 700 sq in "StuntCraft" i built and flew in the 70s and early 80s is near identical to the SV-11 it just has a 70s Jet look

Here is one that predates the Vector. Randy's Vigilante. I changed the top block and rudder. The Stuntcraft wing is high aspect ratio on this design. Carl Raichel cut the foam wing for me. Bill Rich flew these for two years. Plane looks much smaller than Bills with out the rack back tips.

Thanks, Dick. Looks better in the picture than it is. It's Ultrakote on wings and stab and Lustrekote primer and paint on the wood.

I almost hesitate to post this picture of my Vector 40 hanging on the wall. The engine is out of it and it hangs, semi-retired, until I fix the elevator hinges that were broken in an inverted low angled meeting with the grass.

Covered with sanding dust, it barely shows the sparkle it once had. It's monokote over silkspan, one of my favorite techniques with plastic coverings.

I very nice flying ship, that always, well, almost, went where it was pointed.
