VECTOR 40 repop

After the unfortunate demise of my good Vector 40 at KOI, I immediately ordered a new kit for rebuild.  I decided that the turtle deck and rear control surfaces being undamaged (and not being a supersititous person), were salvagable and would save me a lot of work. Although not thinking with the same brilliance, I trashed the wings before I realized that the ailerons were just as good. HB~>

Anyway I am on the way to getting the job done now.

So far so good.... wish I was that far along with mine.

I should have mine done by the spring thaw, and at the rate things are going that should be some time this summer. HB~>

ailerons you say.....would like to see that one going through the pattern S?P y1

You do realize that the Vector really would be a good R/C model. I even R/C'd the profile Ringmaster in the 90's and it flew very well. and a Shark 45 in the late 80's The only time that they don't do well is when major R/C kit manufacturers get into the act and try and redo a C/L model as a R/C job. Case in point was the great plain R/C Nobler. a worse abomination was never suckered on an unsuspecting R/C crowd when that turkey landed. The Top Flight R/C nobler by Ed Sweeny was a far different model and was almost true to the original with the exception of the trike gear.
actually IT could be a lot worse then finally adding a little class to the R/C community.

I have a Vector 40 that will be going on the building table soon.  This one is going to be electric powered. 

Are you going to Perry, GA this year.  I am going along with Donnie Thibault and Joe Petty and there may be a couple more from our group.  I will be looking for some power for the E Vector.

I will be in Winter Haven sometime a week or so after Perry.  I will get with you to see if we can get together for some flying.

Had time to get the wing roughed out tonight.  As you can see in the background my shop suffers from competing projects.

Hey Phil,
You and I are almost at the same point in the build now. The instructions say to raise the wing spar off the plans 5/32 @ R-11. It looks like your spar is flat. Is there another way to build the wing?

Paul,

When I glued the wing up I used the shims. In the last picture the wing wasn't pinned down so it looks like it was unshimmed(sp?).

Also because of the troubles I experienced with the bellcrank shifting up due to my bad solder job on the brass ferruls, I am using a different method to center the bellcrank on the support shaft this time, as shown below.  Easy for me to make because I have a lathe, but expensive to include in a kit.

The method Tom Morris included with his control systems seems to work well.  Wheel collars with some JB Weld, and lengths of fuel tubing above and below that.  Then the wire epoxied ot ply plates on the wing sheeting.  I had a piece of ply for a cap over the ends of the wire, usually.  That's if you don't have a lathe! LOL!!

Got a little more done this week.  Seems lately every time I get a chance to work on it...honey doo's pop up.  I got the wing covered and glued into the fuse and and the fuse sanded down.  Gotta cover the fuse with silkspan now.  I have also been working hard on my backup Vector 40. I need to  raise the fuel tank but that is a problem because to do it I have to cut into the mounting beams...meantime I'm trying muffler pressure to see if that evens out the run.  Meantime the club is moving to a new field on a private runway....lots of work there.
