The last I saw it, "Sparky" had locked it and said he was considering an "open to those who want it" section on Political etc. subjects.

I am a bit torn on whether I like the idea: on one hand, it may be good to have a place where you can discuss that stuff; on the other hand, those areas can get pretty tense. I know at least one place where a "Life, the Universe and Politics" area was shut down because of all the tension it created.

The one that was closed can still be viewed:

No one can shut a site down except the owner. I still think we have some kind of free speach rights left don't we? Or are they gone now too and I just missed it?

If we are going to argue politics I will stop coming to this site.  The hobby does not need this type of diversitive arguments and they can not do anything to enhance it.  I do not force my believes or politics on anyone else and do not want anyone to try and force theirs on me.

What I don't understand is why we cant discuss a change in the system whitout someone saying its politics. Its not! I don't want to force my beliefs on anyone, I don't give a hoot. If someone don't want to come here . Your choice. If you do fine.

Its just as easy not to click on something you think you wont like.

Free Speech? Absolutely, unless the owner finds the discussion too unpleasant, sponsors (if any) get upset and suggest closure, or security agencies take some heated comments too seriously. Even that last point has happened.

It is your choice, of course. Just keep in mind that things might not always go the way you'd like them to. When two persons with opposite views get warmed up, it is not always pleasant, especially if the subject is political.

This is a model airplane forum. I am sure its no risk to national security. Do you see a political section? No and I'm not doing it .

Without a political section we should be safe  H^^

I've understood that administrators on some hobby or sports forums have been contacted by security authorities, because of some heated comments in a political section. I don't remember if it was at the time of the latest US Presidential Election or when the Health Care thing was being debated  ~^

Our countries Founding Fathers would laugh at our fear of discussing politics. LL~

Most of us at some time or another were taught that it is no polite to discuss politic with friends.
Look where it has brought us. #^

Not even considering the "war" with England the founding of this country was a very hostile environment.
Look what it gave us. H^^

Our 'leaders' would rather us not talk and leave it all up to them. Ain't working to good is it? HB~>

Just sit back and let the T.V. tell us what it all means.(not for me!) ???

Time for the adults to pick up the bat.

Raising the DNA thread was hardly to do with toy aeroplanes. However if you read some of the responses, there can be no doubt that they were were highly political. I have no objection to intense political debate, but PLEASE not here. Stunthanger is an excellent forum for our sport, let us not spoil it. There are plenty of places to vent ones political views other than this excellent site.
Only a few weeks ago we were all warned that such comments would be deleted. Let us all stick to that rule. It will make the site a much more pleasant place to visit.

Regards,

Andrew.

Good idea.  Bob Hunt says the rest of the world laughs at our BOM.  This shows that people elsewhere are giving it serious consideration.

Most of us at some time or another were taught that it is no polite to discuss politic with friends.
This is much better: a discussion about political discussions   LL~

In my opinion, in countries where the System is geared towards having two parties, things get black-and-white. And discussions become pushing contests between two immovable objects. Political discussions are much "safer" in places where there's a multitude of parties that are more like various shades of grey.

Your 2nd link is the crazy place.
Most of that site has problems similar to those in their LTUP section.

The secret and anonymous moderation and reporting system is the biggest down fall of the site in your link.

Moderation is by the owners teenage daughter and the problems are what you would expect when children are in charge of Adult conversation.

The paying members seem to have access to enough of the site for hacking and tracking other members.

Some members call the FBI and other agencies on the other members n~ ( I know of 3-4 times so more would be expected)

Their rules and moderation are set up for a few select to play games.

The owner likes it that way as the Soap Opera effect keeps traffic high for sponsor $$$$

That place is not safe for children at the least and smart adults would  stay away.
LTUP is their worst but it is scattered all across the various forums there, 50-75% of them at a guess.

With reasonable rules and some real moderation( as opposed to vindictive moderation) there is no reason why adults cannot discuss our future in a reasonable manner.

Another possible help would be if the sub(?) forum if on U.S.A. politics that only eligible/registered voters would be allowed to post?

DITTO  #^ H^^ There are thousands of political forum sites where we can post our political views and only two (that I know of) about a C/L forum. We have the freedom of speech, of course!!! The problem develops when we advertise that no political posts will be accepted at a site, but a post involving the mentioning of any government agency is printed. Any time that this occurs, the post becomes a political statement. I personally do not object to the reading of the posts, as a matter of fact, I enjoy seeing how convoluted they become on some sites. However, if we post that we won't accept some posts then we must stay true to the statement and keep the government, religion, etc. out of a control line forum.

Hi Rafael,

When I posted the "No Politics" sticky, it was by Robert's orders when he first assigned me as the first moderator.  At the very first, strict orders were given me to ONLY allow discussions that dealt directly with building/flying stunt planes.  It has evolved, and for the best in many ways.  At the time, several other control line forums were being ate up with non model airplane discussions and heated arguments, so THIS one was to be very specific in it's purpose.

Of course, Robert actually owns the site, so I am not going to moderate HIS posts!   Makes sense to me.  And my definition of "politics" probably isn't clear.  I guess I need to modify the statement.  Of course, I am positive you can find points in anything to "argue" if you so desire.....

LL~ LL~ LL~ Yeah...It is not a good idea to bite the boss's hand... I hope you realize that I am not criticizing any moderator but the application of the statement. This is a site that provides (a least for me) valuable information on C/L. The only negative that I have about this site is:
That I did not find it sooner...

Thank you all  H^^

rafael
