Familiar Sound
« on: March 28, 2006, 08:21:02 AM »
I finally went flying this past Sunday evening and thought I was hearing a familiar sound in the distance.  When I packed up and was heading home, I saw a father and his two boys with their Cox PT19 trainer.  That kid was smiling from ear-to-ear too.  I had my TutorII, that now has two flights on it, and the kid was in awe of its huge size.  We are going to get together again and I will get him and his dad up flying as soon as possible.  I may even let them have the Tutor.

That does sound great.  Maybe another Mike Duffie in the works.  Just don't push them too hard.  I have another father/son team we got started years ago that are coming back to the fold.  DOC Holliday

Z,

I am disappointed,  I thought you were going to bring that Tutor to the "Memphis Stunt Classic".

Louis,

I will bring it, but it may have someone else holding the handle.

Did you get your engine run worked out yet?

I'd like to relate a similiar story that didn't turn out quite so well and to add a note of caution. I was flying in an open field near my house when 3 kids showed up. Probably heard the engine. They were fascinated with the plane and the idea of flying with wires hooked directly to the plane. I told them to come back the next day and i'd bring one they could try. The next day their mother showed up. Mad as a wet hen. Said I was endangering her children... A little bit later a cop showed up and said the neighbors were complaining about the noise (yeah, right...). The caution is to be sure you get the parents involved. A good plan for LOTS of reasons. I see that you plan to get the father involved but a word of caution is advised for others who may find themselves in a position to get kids intrested in a hobby or sport. A friend of mine who loves children went off to play with the kids at a company picnic. One of the moms accused him of being a pedophile. His court date is pending.

Currently the news media is making a lot of noise about pedophiles and parents are hyper sensitive. They see one behind every tree and if you get accused it's very hard (and expensive) to defend yourself. So, be careful and get the parents involved. It might also be wise to always have another adult with you at all times when you're with the kids. Just in case you need a supporting witness.

It's a sad comentary that our society has come to this.  :(
