Thank You John Brodak
« on: December 16, 2011, 03:00:08 PM »
Just want to make it public that Brodak sent me a new wing to replace the warped wing that was in the ARF Pathfinder kit that I had purchased (see the ARF section).  I called to see if I could buy just the wing, and recieved a wing at no cost to me within a week.  That is really great service!  Many thanks to John and his staff.

I have had very few problems with Brodak Co.  The ones that I did have, were handled fairly and speedily.  Good folks to deal with.

Besides that you get to party on his property for a week every year. Flying on any of six circles. Into the evening. With or without mufflers. Swapping stories, lies and visiting with once a year friends. Real friends.

Swapping stories, lies and visiting with once a year friends.
I got one ready for this year:

I was flying in Antarctica and had to use 30% nitro because of the ozone layer is missing. Ozone is oxygen only denser so without it in the atmosphere, engines lack power. The upside of flying in Antarctica is that the wind blows from the middle of the circle outwards so there is never an issue with line tension. As you know the earth spins around an axis that goes through the north and south pole and the air is pushed outwards away from the axis towards the equator.

Bet you can't come up with a better "truth, I swear!"

Have you ever thought how wonderful life would be if every maker of anything, any goverment dept, every neighbor, any educator followed the Brodak pattern of just an d honerable actions?  I have attended the last 5 Brodak Fly-In's and have the best time I have ever had , anywhere.  Want to really find out how much John is admired?  Spend a few minutes in downtown Carmichael's asking about John or the Brodak name without letting on that your a modeler. I did and it was a real eye opener.  Even at Mass one Sunday, when other worshipers found out why I was in the church the first thing they told me was how they admired Buzz and the Brodak family. There's more, believe me!

They were very nice to me recently, allowing me to add some small items I had forgotten to my original order box right before it shipped, saving extra shipping charges.  I would like to get to that fly-in sometime.  Maybe in 2012.

Second the motion on QUALITY SERVICE. I recently had a Cardinal ARF kit with a wing that was cracked in the middle. I called to see if I could buy one. They asked me what color I wanted, then said it would be shipped out the next day. I replied; give me a total and I'll send you a check. The lady said no charge. They were glad to do it. That kind of service fuels repeat sales.

Several District VIII fliers go up there every year and always say it is the most enjoyable flying event they attend and these folks go to a lot of contests. I gotta make it up there one of these days myself too.

I stopped in just to watch and see what it was all about probably  8 or 10 years ago,  haven't missed one since.    It's always a great time and always something going on and like Dennis said,  you make some real good friends....

Here at 44 deg N., I find that my plane wants to dip towards the ground while going South.  I think that is because gravity is stronger at the equator, south of us.  However, we are so far north that the effect is very small and sometimes hard to detect.

Sounds like you need a circle that slants a bit to the south instead of a level one.  ;D

I hope heaven is like Brodak's Flyin'. I've been going for a couple years now, there is just so much to do and see and everybody there likes the same thing I do.

I have found a great way of keeping my stunt ships very very light.  First i don't worry about building heavy, using what ever weight wood I find lying around.  The secret to light weight?  I go to the other well known site and then download a lot of long winded hot air  that passes for advice by certain folks, download it into sandwitch bags and insert in all the open bays in the wing.  I do seal the bags with a covering iron first.  Then i cover. Sometimes I over do it a bit and the wing wants to rise by itself from the table, but once the wing is inserted into the fuse that seldom happens.  Try it, it does not break any AMA rules. When challenged as to the contents of the bags being helium I always win the many bets that take place.  The only time it didn't work the plane rose vertically from the launch pad and just kide of floated around for awhile until I shot a couple of holes in the wing with a pellet pistol. Then it worked just fine.

Now, if you can get your engine to run on BS you'll have it made!  VD~

Bill, I tried 4 different brands of BS from other sites. None worked in my FP,LA or McCoy engines. I think there is way to much mystery oil in those brands of BS. I had one batch analyzed and it came back showing a high % of Metamucil.

I think you have precious metal deposits below the south section of the flying circle which causes increase in gravity in that section. If you tell me the type of engine/prop combination you are using, I'll be able to tell ya which type of metal.
For example, a PA65 with a 8x6 wooden prop means you have titanium bell-crank deposits. The crystalline structure of of titanium that creates the bell-crank shaped structures(mostly 4" size variety) interferes with the ionized fuel mixture going through size 6 venturi which in turn causes the fuel splash in the crankcase to force the prop pitch to increase at the TDC which in turn creates the down pitch moment you experience.
