Hey Derek, Great job on the world plane brother. Seems like it takes forever when your building one you really want right. If that bird fly's as good as it looks man the boys on the other side of the globe are in trouble! Best of luck trimming and getting ready for the BIG one. Keep me posted on how she fly's.   Scott Bolton ;D

Very nice Derek.
It has the F2B "Look" and I can't thank you enough for installing a clear canopy and adding a little pilot to scare the crap out of.
I have always believed that WC planes need to be painted with a patriotic theme and your Dreadnought captures the emotion.
Now all you need to do is fly better than everyone else-------seems simple enough right?

I put the first 3 flights on the plane yesterday. The last flight was a full pattern. It is a little tail heavy but I kinda saw that coming. I added 1/2 oz of tip weight and it probably needs a little more. Over all it is a good plane and I think I will have it trimmed in a few more flying sessions.

Thanks everyone, for all of you're support!

I am also sure it is "just fine " like it is.

Gee Derek,

I'll be some of that extra tail weight came from the hunks of wood you used fairing the fuselage into the rudder!

I think it is from the 6 extra bolts, blind nuts, and washers. Plus the plywood bulkheads.

That may not be all that much of a liability. I think it's important to beef up the area around the stab mount anyway (removable hardware notwithstanding) and the weight is not much of an issue on these airplanes. Having to build in what amounts to a clamp to hold the tail on also ensures it's going to be pretty sturdy. Even a little bit stiffer is better and it may cost you a few ounces at most.

I agree, I feel that if anything the tail of this plane is more solid than previous planes that I have built. The extra weight is not that big of an issue. I will add some nose weight for now and possibly build a new lighter tail once the WC is over. I think 1/2 oz. or less of nose weight will do the trick. Like I said it is only a little heavy. (it had one hell of a corner those first couple flights) ;D

Nice work derek.

I wish I could see it fly..... its certainly your style thats for sure !
I will watch and read this space for your results - must have flown well to make that team.

Cant wait till I come over to the USA again and catch up with you - once again a mighty fine job.

I just wanted you guys to know that the plane flies great. I have 10 flights on it now and it is very close to being trimmed. I put two flights up in terrible wind just to check everything out. I am very happy with the plane and the take apart hardware.

This weekend I am getting together with Bill Rich (our newest team member) and a few others to get some serious practice in.

Thank you all for you're comments.

Yes, a couple of weeks ago Billy said that he would not be able to make the trip this year. Brett had previous obligations so that made Bill the alternate. I it has been official for a couple weeks I did not realize that nobody had said anything yet.

And for the record, I bailed out of my alternate duties (which I thought had a pretty good chance of becoming a real spot) last November when it became obvious that my work commitments were not going to permit me to properly prepare and probably not attend. Right now our launch is supposed to be July 30th, which means there's no way.

That's the beauty of having 15-20 world-class competitors - people can drop out and we still have a good chance.
