Did I screw up again?

I was reading something on the web about how to put down silkspan and it said not to use butyrate dope. I read this after I put 2 coats of butyrate on the wood. The plan was polyspan in the wing and stab silkspan on the rest on the plane.
Did I screw up again?

Nope...I only use butyrate and do not use nitrate.

I use nitrate to fill the wood, then put the silk/silkspan down with it also. Couple of coats to seall the covering, then go to butyrate clear.

You'll be fine Paul, butyrate doesn't have quite the adhesive strength of nitrate and earlier butyrates, but with silkspan you should have zero problems

Just remember - butyrate over nitrate, never nitrate over butyrate. Reason for using nitrate putting the silk/silkspan down is its better adhesion qualities.

I use butyrate from bare wood up.  Never have a worry about compatibility.

Me too, Doc. Have just used butyrate from the wood up for quite awhile.

I use both Buty and Nitrate and find little difference.  They both work great.

Your ok.  You can use eather one.  It's best to learn the easyest one first which happens to be
Butyrate Dope and Thinner.

Here is some of what i learned and it took me a while because it seems many builders have a
defferent way they do things.  So here is some basics.

Learn the easyest method first.  (Butyrate Dope & Butyrate Thinner)

Here is where you can learn and buy products.  (Aircraft Spruce & Specialty Co)
Here is whats available in dope products:

Certified Coatings
Randolph Coatings
Brodak
Sig

In these products there are two types of dope that you apply covering material
with.  Butyrate and Nitrate.  Each one has great purpases you can learn this
later as you build more planes.  Each dope has its own thinner and it's best to
use the one that it goes with.  Most people like Randolph or Certified because
it's thinner cost so much cheaper than Brodak or Sig.  I use Randolph. 
Now you have to understand that on the pigment side of dope (The Colors)
alot of people still like to use Brodak there are alot of colors and you can also
mix them to make more colors.  So use Randolph clear dopes to prep and
adhere covering. Then use Brodak Colors. Then use Randolph Clear again to
finish your clearcoat.  Keep studying and you will learn about Nitrates and
Urethane Paints.  Hope this helps  Bryan H

You're good to go, just keep using the butyrate on this one. (once the butyrate is on it, no nitrate!)

Bryan: Why is "butyrate the easiest"?  Both methods (butyrate or nitrate) are the same.   Nitrate just really does stick things a little better.  Using dope is using dope.  You just can't use nitrate over butyrate.
