It was a hot contest!!! I checked the heat index and it reached 100 by 11am. Nitro and more importantly the shade was everyone’s friend on Sunday. There were a lot of beautiful airplanes out there. Steve Moon flew his new Nemesis painted after the air racer. It’s a really cool airplane!! Steve remarked that his plane was about 1/2 scale of the real one because the real one is so small. Gaylord flew a really cool looking jet. It looked gigantic sitting on the ground. Joe Hildreth had his Fw-190 on the advanced circle. I got to fly it a couple months ago and it’s flies a lot better than it should. Doug Moon flew Bob Gieseke’s 2003 Bear with the PA 75 installed. The power/weight is outstanding, and the airplane was so nimble and locked in everywhere it was in the pattern. Steve said Doug needed an 18 point handicap in addition to no appearance points because the airplane was too awesome and too light! Hahahaha. I flew the new plane that has trimmed out to be an awesome airplane. I used 15% nitro for the first time on the 75, and it liked it in the heat. It was fat dumb and happy chugging along at 5.5 in a deep, rumbling 4 stroke almost everywhere, and broke into the 2 right when I needed it. After the contest, I flew Crist Rigotti’s new electric and gave him a couple small suggestions to try, but it was also a really good airplane with lots of potential.
Huge thanks to the judges, Phillip Nickles, Dale Gleason, Ken Culbertson and Jake Moon for standing out in the sweltering heat so we could fly!
Bring on the NATS!
I’m going to post some pics of mine from my phone and they will probably be sideways unfortunately
