Current evolution of the Big Evo

HI guys. I've been putting in a lot of work on the big Evolution stunt motor. Here's a Youtube video of how it's going.

Dave,
Looks like it pulled the airplane around pretty well.  It sounds like it has more of a traditional run as compared to the 36.  We will keeps our eyes open for this new one.  Thanks for working on it.

More info:
Plane is the same one as I've been usung. 675 sq. in. now up to 72oz
12x6 modified Zinger pro - thinned and tips raked - 8100 at launch
15% Omega - a litle less than 6oz
65' .018 lines - I was flying it at around 5.4 sec (when I'm inverted you can here Big Art yell it out)
Evolution tube muffler with baffel removed - + 1.5 to 2.0 db
Evolution plug

Oh ...... the engine is now a 60....... 13.2oz w/o muffler. ABC Same size case as the 52. As a matter of fact it's the same mounting holes as their 40, 46,  and 52 so you could run any of the above in the same plane.

I think it's a little under-proped but the plane likes the 12x6. I've run it on 5% to 15% fuel and sraight synthetic to castor blends because I know you will. It now has a traditional NVA through the former draw bar hole.

any non piped stunt engine that will burn 6 oz in 6 minutes has my attention.

There was nary a beep of break in that whole pattern...  impressive.

Hmmm.  To me, it sounded like it was breaking quite a bit, especially on outsides.  That being said, it does seem to be more of a stunt run than the .36 has.

What type of RPM's with an APC 12x6. That is always my acid test for my Saito's,(they have a lot of torque).

I will try it and let you know. Do you want it at a two or clean four? Both? What % nitro?

It was spinning a little fast. The prop is small for the engine but good for plane. The 52 loves this prop the but 60 (the engine in the video)  likes at least another in of prop.  I was happy that it started the flight at 5.4 and ended it at the same speed.

Nothing special. Just a steady low and a steady high with your preferred fuel. We all know who you are-you know what a stunt motor needs to do LOL.

That was the flight before with one less mod. I missed the needle a little on the one I linked but thought that it was a good presentation. The linked flight was the first run after I put it together it actually took me a minute at the beginning of the run to let the wd40 burn out so I could set the valve. I will put up a couple pics as soon as I get them out of the camera and get home from dads house. I need the mill hand......

Yup, I've viewed the video twice and I'd definitely agree that you've got it right.  If the Evo production folks are able to incorporate all your development changes into the production version it will be a winner IMHO.  8)

A bigger vent and prop and more nitro. It would also require a big plane.....

What type of muffler does it come with. What is the bore and stroke of the motor. And, what is the bore diameter of the venturi you are using.

8,300 to 12,200 on a APC 12x6, man that's a strong motor!! Although, that bore stroke ratio seems awfully oriented towards RPM as opposed to torque.

Sometime we'll have to have a friendly discussion on stroke length and torque.....

I know, I know, bore and stroke is not the only thing that determines torque. I remember the raging post on the other forum concerning the subject LOL.
And by the way, most Saitos are very short stroke, but as we all know, they are primarily torquers.

Aww Will, I'm just getting the truck packed up for a flight session tomorrow with my brother the "greaser"  Hope to compare my electric PT-19 to his Evo-36 version, plus show him the the electric Baby Clown and maybe some others if they'll fit in the truck.

All seriousness aside Dave has been working his patootie off on the Evo's and you see the proof of his labors.  A side story is that test airplane, the "White Elephant" was a near basket case that had been used by Archie #3 and Todd Lee to break in engines - and neither of them liked the bird very much.  Dave has wrestled the airplane to a draw too - its actually flying quite well now and Dave is getting back in the groove.   H^^  8)

Heck, he even had rotator cuff surgery back in January so he could go the distance!  #^

Dave, I hope you're planning on the FCM weekend the end of August - is there a chance you might demo the Evo 60 there?
If you do, I'll see to it that Dennis has free fuel for the weekend.  Wish I could do the same for you, but.........

Careful Will,

I' ve been working on another bird, that's powered on a Blitzfig 99.  Designed for no-nitro, I find it runs best on pure Chivas Regal.  Does not run worth a darn, but after a couple laps no one near the circle seems to care...   b1  #^  LL~  LL~  LL~

There's a chance. I won't know for a couple weeks.............. Federal jury duty at the beginning of Aug..... The other issue is that you will have to get everyone to sign a waver that they won't get any closer to my plane than about 50 feet..... Not cause of the engine but the plane is a real 50 footer............. Too many accumulated ..... uuuuuuhhhhh........ modifications....... It once was a beauty but it became the "test bed" plane.........

Now  that's a good offer. The poor thing has been mis-treated pretty badly...... It even has an external elevator horn. The internal one broke and we didn't know it till I was sealing the hinge line and was wondering how the flaps and elevator got so mis-aligned.... The fix is epic... Maybe I'll post a pic so everyone has a chance to get used to how it looks before they have to see it in person.....

The fuse is glass and I had to cut a slot about 3/8" x 6" to check the broken horn then after I found out it was broke I had to route the p-rod out the side. The plywood is epoxied and riveted and the aluminum fairing (very light and stiff) is gooped and riveted. They were applied to get the torsional rigity back in the empanage. It's VERY ugly but functional.... I apologise to the Great White (the warm and fuzzy name of the plane post mod) everytime I fly it.......
