  We could use some more pictures from some different angles. I don't think I have ever seen anything like that. Might be another one of the limited production items that were only marketed in California.

Yup...with a ruler for a sense of scale.
I feel like I've seen this object once before...and it elicited the same responses then.
I do see the word "launch" on it, and two arrows indicating something should be fitted in or on the slotted area. I'm curious for side views and one showing the end  marked COX. If this is a stooge, there needs to be a way to anchor it down. There should also be a "sear" or release point with a string hole to release the "sear." Curiosity killed the cat...but it only has me watching this post to conclusion!

A spring loaded locking clip for a vital part on one particular model? Hence hardly or nobody knows what it's for...They made gyrocopter of some kind didn't they- or was it a helicopter. The yellow colour screams - I'm important to attach OR remove before flight.

How about - for retrieving a line or rubberband from inside a hollow pipe? Tube or suchlike...sorry but it's annoying the heck outa me.

The best info I can get so far is it's some kind of launch gizmo,  the top end in the pic is weighted down, there's a hook attached to the spring which somehow attaches to the tail of a PT19, when the pilot gives down the plane is released and takes off.

Down?  Now we know where the name "stooge" came from.  Isn't that why little brothers were invented?  Did Cox also sell props?

Quick response from a couple posters there, it is a launch accessory to the 1985 Cox Eagle II RTF single channel R/C sailplane. Judging from the catalog cut photo, appears to be used as a part of a high start rubber launch system.
