« on: November 01, 2007, 09:13:22 PM »
What can I measure to tell if I have a Cox .010 or .020?

.010 has a plastic tank or radial mount.

The TeeDee 020 is about 1 1/2 inches from the bottom of the crankcase to the tip of the glow plug. It also does NOT have beam mounts---I am not sure about the TeeDee 010 in that regard.

Hold up a regular pencil eraser next to the cylinder next to the piston. the .010 piston diameter is about the size of the eraser that is showing. The .020 piston is noticeably larger in diameter than the pencil eraser.

I just measured one each of my engines with the folowing:

Engine             Cox 010             Cox 020
Head               .432 Dia.            .556 Dia.
Overall height    1.238                1.524

Note: Overall height is measured from the two lower bosses on the crankcase to the top of the glow plug (head) connector.

An other quick check is that the 020 engine (PeeWee) normally uses 4 mounting screws and the 010 uses 2 mounting screws.

Thanks guys,  mine measures out to be a .020, it has a metal tank and backplate...not a TD..a Pee Wee.

FWIW, there was no reed valve version of the 010, it was a Tee Dee (anyway as AFAIK)!

As far as I have found, you are correct.  The Cox 010 was only sold as a TD.

I have 2 Cox 010 TD's and 6 Cox 020 PeeWee runners.  I also have 1 020 with a broken crank. Looks like it landed at 90 degrees at full power.  I am using it as a parts engine.

I am considering building a Blohm & Voss Bv 138 for 1/2 A multi scale with 3 of the Cox 020 PeeWee's for power.

That would be a fine thing to see! Good luck. The Bv 138 should make an exciting model to have on the flight line.
