I apologize for the late reporting!
Below are the results of the 2019 John Gunn Invitational contest held on MAY 4-5 in EL DORADO, AR along with a short report.
The contest was plagued with rain Sat. morning until about noon. The MASA guys quickly pushed water off the asphalt circle and started competition about 12:30. The grass circle was waterlogged so it was not usable all weekend. We still had 21 entries for the weekend, which was a good turnout considering the bad weather Friday night and Saturday morning. Sunday was bright and shiny with some fearsome turbulence, but most of the guys handled it well. Steve Moon showed the way in PA on Sun. winning Expert. Mark Troutman took the TOP GUN award by winning P.A. Advance, placing second in Classic, third in Profile Advance, and third in War Bird. John Hill took the Concours awards in PA and War Bird, as well as winning the WAR BIRD event. We were able to fly all events, however, we limited Classic and War Bird to one round. War Bird was finished on Sunday morning. Thanks to Shelia Cranfill, Janis Stokey, Stella Hill, Maggie Blanchard, and Colleen Gilbert who did a great job with registration, posting, and tabulation. SPECIAL THANKS to Nan Beavers who ran scores all weekend. Thanks a bunch to all the judges which were Terry Tucker, Mike Makepeace, and an unknown judge (can't remember who he was?). Can't leave out Peggy Makepeace and Dang Faith and other Arkansas girls and DVIII ladies who provided all the great food. Thank you to Jason Cunningham who kept everything running smoothly inspite of the bad weather.
