Hi Tony,

It sure is!  I got to meet Joe Dill a couple VSCs ago and had him sign an RSM kit and plans for my dad.  Super nice guy.

Talked to him about the lineage while I was there.  He never met Jim Van Loo so he isnt sure which Chipmunk came first, though with some time and research someone could figure it out.

Very nice model, and nice kit by RSM.  Robin Sizemore built one a few years back and maybe a few others since.  Fuse seems to be a bit more scale (more egg shaped towards the rear) and based on a Nobler wing like many other good designs.

**sigh**  So many airplanes, so little time....

Not that I am aware of.  I dont think anyone had even heard of the Dill Chipmunk prior to the kit release.

If you ever make it down to VSC, you can ask the man himself!  Joe Dill lives somewhere up in the Washington area but stays in Tucson during the winter.  He doesnt own a computer so he isnt a forum member.  He had heart bypass surgery several years ago and he says he is unable to fly compeditively because of it because he gets dizzy.  He was working on a ringmaster imperial with a 3-line setup last time I visited with him.  He also showed me a REALLY nice F8 stunter that he built with retracts and removable wing.  His heart condition doesnt affect his building hands!

Like I said in my earlier post, he is a super cool dude and if you make it down there, he'd be happy to talk to you about it, and I'm sure someone has his phone number ( my visit was a few phones ago and have since lost his number) and he would enjoy a phone call about it.

I recall talking to Joe at a contest way back when he was flying his Chipmunk/McCoy .40 in Open PA, if that dates it (and me) a bit. I really don't recall what year it was, or whether I was still flying CL or was flying FF (which I started flying again in late '69).

If you look on the RSM website under Classic Legal kits http://rsmdistribution.com/index-2.htm, you'll see Joe's Chip in the top right.  H^^ Steve
