My latest engine project
« on: January 26, 2013, 07:54:33 AM »
This is a Vivell .035 I just completed. I was going to post progress pictures but the picture quality is so bad I gave up, I need a new digcam. Anyway,  .035 Cu In, that's an 8-4 prop and it turns it about 6800RPM. The easiest starting and handling diesel (compression ignition) engine I've ever built or owned.

Great job Randy.
I need to get out in garage and fire up the lathe but it is a little cold and snow on the ground now.

RANDY
Is that a disk valve or reedie?  Iron piston?  Bronze (or other) bushing for the crank?  I would imagine it would be great on a 1/2A Texaco sized SAM bird..?

Hi Denny,

Its a disc valve, was supposed to be steel but I made it out of Teflon. Cast iron piston, plain parent metal main bearing. There are other diesels that would do a good job too, they will swing enormous props and you can lean them and tweek the compression to the enth degree.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Nice work. How did you hold the wrist pin on such a small engine, pressed in, floating?
