Chehalis , Washington
« on: August 10, 2020, 04:37:11 PM »
Does anyone know if Chehalis is again a site we can use?    It seems that Arlington is now a thing of the past.

Sorry to hear that, though it was too far for me to go. And yes, Chehalis is still viable.

When they closed the Arlington field temporarily a few years ago, they let us fly on the other side of the N-S road, south of the hangars.  Here's the process: you go to the airport manager and ask him to fly there.  He will be opposed, saying that if RC guys saw us flying there, they'd fly there, too, and hit full-scale airplanes.  Then you tell them that the RC guys would try to fly there anyhow, but if we were there, we'd ward them off.  That argument convinced him on a couple of occasions.  It also actually worked that way in practice.

I know of another field closer to your house than Chehalis, but we can only fly electric there.

  Howard ,
I have the location in my sites as we type. A little small for RC  I really doubt he will mention RC but thanks for the heads up. My thoughts are if I am allowed to fly there the dog people will stampede over there too.    As I see it in life  no one will be in an area until they see someone else there first, kinda like my lane on I-5. I don't believe people are the brightest creatures on this planet. And I've seen a few people in mt time.

I've got a decent site to fly. At least until the quarantine is over.

John, the soccer field in Kent will be a lot better soon.  They have been mowing and it will dry out soon.  We can only fly on Friday, but it works.  I will be there Friday morning, c'mon down.  It's much closer than Chehalis.

Five or six fliers, more BS er's.  The field is much better now, it would be turbulent with some wind.  It's all we have locally, for slimers, at least.

   Mike,
I read in Flying Lines that Riverwalk park is open for us. I imagine John has overlooked it as being off limits. We can't fly there can we ?

I passed it yesterday.  Looks like they planted trees.  I don't know if the space left open is adequate.  Bums were living in the bushes there. You have to park some distance from the field, and people broke into the parked cars.

John, you might try the soccer fields out in Issaquah, by Lk. Sammamish St. Park. I'm not sure if they'd want a Discover Pass or not, but at one time we had a young member who lived on the Issaquah Plateau and flew there. He said one time the soccer kids tried to push him out, but the grounds keeper told them to go over to one of the other soccer fields, saying "He was here first!".

There are soccer fields in downtown Kent, also, not far from ShoWare Center. Railroad tracks both E & W sides, so how could noise be a problem? Perhaps there are other soccer fields closer? I strongly suggest putting out safety cones...only because it looks much better on the accident report forms. Like you said, people aren't very bright, and ignore safety cones most of the time.  H^^ Steve

PS: If you don't remember the gate code for Chehalis Muni, call me if you can't remember it's "quarter after lunch".

  Steve,
I intended to go down South to Chehalis yesterday but did not,  might ride down later this week.  If I have an altercation with some Adolescent soccer kids & their Big Underwear coach it won't end well for either side   so I'll most likely stay clear of the big city crap. No one will use the field until they see me having fun then they will look for fun  & come bother me since they have no brain let alone manors. Maybe this way I might actually get something built & finished. Watching these people in BC & Spokane pump out the aircraft on an unprecedented  scale is embarrassing for me. When I worked full time I got twice the work done not to mention the wings & fuse's were straighter. Maybe I should volunteer to clean the sidewalks in Kirkland   , something I can handle.

I would, should  Howard but I'm not sure how the secrete police would see it . They announced more closings of Kmarts & Sears the parking lot in Aberdeen might be an option. Hell , maybe the Police station parking lots in Seattle ,the City council is working on that one .

Hey John,  there's a field down in Salem, Oregon you have used.  Maybe time to move down here.  (yeh, I know I have suggested that before).

We used to fly combat planes there.  Lots of  turbulence.  Got run off by soccer people, too, in later years.

I found some fields near Shelton with a parking lot. Not sure if I can fly there. Of course, for me, there's always Sanderson Airport of I want to join the club.

No, we flew on the "Flying Tiger's" R/C field, like Mike said. Grass strip. It was ok for combat models like we flew then. I found it wasn't so good for Free Flight.  n1 Steve

As I remember we flew about anywhere there was an open area big enough.  No one cared, it seemed.  For at least one summer Issaquah was our local club's meeting/flying sight.  The grass, hay actually, was too high for anything except combat.  Funny we didn't burn the place down with our Missile Mist and hot starts.
