Just to be different...

I dont like it.... all that flawless detailed line work, the subtle colours, the buff, the cowl and pipe tunnel work - its too over the top..... lets just overlook how well it flows from front to back thats just a distraction to the rest of the problems it has...

I akin this seeing 1 million dollars on the ground, you cant pick it all up - and its to much for one man.

What are you trying to build a front row ship? Thats not what the Buttafucco Stunt Team are all about.

Very dissapointed..

I am so happy that someone picked up on this detail.

Curt Contrada won the Concourse, Pilots Choice Award at the 2000 NATs. I talked with him at length about paint schemes and how they should flow and give the illusion of forward motion. Also how important it is to have trim colors that flow with the shapes of the plane. He pointed out that trim colors should not clash but compliment. I think his exact words were" I want it to be flashy but not gawdy" I think about that conversation with Curt, everytime I lay out a paint scheme. I hope Curt gets a chance to see this, and gives me a thumbs up. Just so he knows that the time he spent with me wasn't a waste of his time.

Thanks Curt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Larry, Buttafucco Stunt Team

P.S. I'm not quite certain, but I believe I was told that Curt happens to be a graphics designer. (which would explain his awesome work)

PJ,

Don't be silly, I know what front row models look like.  n~

I'm glad I'm on your mind and I'm also glad you took the shot at me. Tells me a great deal about you and your character.

PJ. Do you have children?

Did, or do you tell them they cannot accomplish what others accomplish?

Were you told this?

Are these people "Gods" that build front row models? I think not, just men like you and me.

I love the movies and I love quoting lines from movies. Here's the line and you can guess the movie.

"What one man can do, another can do."

I was a Military brat, we moved around quite a bit, even coast to coast. Obviously I didn't see my Dad a great deal in those early years, but when I did see him, he would always tell me the same thing, repeatedly.

It was something I would repeat to my children as they were growing up. I always believed this was of importance and interest. My Father was a very smart man.

He would say, "Son, don't ever think your not the smartest person in the room."

My dad, like myself and now my children, know that income, vocations and abilities have nothing to do with intelligence.

I may just design and build a model called "Jealously." Yes, it will be front row quality.

Blessings,

Charles

Charles

Charles,

I think you are missing the point here.

The reason you catch so much grief when you say that you can, or have built front row models is because, to my knowledge, you have never been to a Nats or appearance judging at the Nats. So, to say you know what a front row model is is not true. You may have a good idea what a front row model is, but you do not "Know" what a front row model is. A nice plane or even a very nice plane does not mean that it will be "Front Row".

To say you have built or can build to this level is perceived as a slap in the face to those who actually have done it.

"Front Row" is not a term that you can use to describe your own models it is a term that other people must assign your model.

You can't go around claiming that you build front row models unless you have done it, and a 30 year old RC plane does not count with this group of people.

Matts to young to know what a woman is... let alone the subtley in dealing with them.

Larry knows I think its amazing and that was all just a chuckle.. I get inspired by guys like Larry and Claudio, who are
modern day Ted Fanchers.

Charles ; No I dont have children - WAY to young for that - who do you think I am Derek Barry?

Yes your on my mind constantly - every cut of wood I make, I think I hope this passes the AviaJet test - Im sick of trying to impress guys like Walker, buck and Barry with fancy tiger paint jobs..

Keep it simple, keep it front row, keep it 80's RC, thats my motto.  y1

Derek : You have alot of opinions of whats Front Row and what isnt, considering you have only won the Concouse once.......  8)

its called Checkmate 3... bescaue this is not the First brilliant Checkmate to come out that Buttafucco Stunt Team factory...

Once again Larry; well done..... and as a graphic designer I can say it flows great.

Derek

Derek nailed this one right on the head.
Years back, I thought that I was a pretty fair builder. Until I stated flying with the likes of the late Jim Tichy, Phil Granderson, Jim Aron, Ted Fancher, Ray Firkins and Jerry Silver. After seeing their work, I didn't think that I was such a fair builder after all. Every year, Phil and Uncle Jimby raise the bar a little higher
and its getting harder and harder to keep up with them.

One observation I have made, is that most planes will look pretty good from ten feet. But the closer you get to them, the more flaws you will see.
When you look at the planes of those I mentioned above, the closer you get to them, the more intricate detail you will see.
The perfect cowl fit, the perfect gaps between the flaps and flap fairings, perfect fillets, no paint bleed on the trim colors and no overspray,no wood grain showing and no texture from silkspan. All of this, and I haven't even mentioned a mirror like finish.
At the next contest, take a close look at the front row planes and look for the details I am speaking of, then look at the follow up rows to see what separates them from the best. When you can notice these little details, you can then implement them into you own building techniques and you will be on your way to the front row as well.

Oh and thanks for all the compliments, even you P J, sorry you don't like her. Maybe on the next one I'll airbrush some tiger stripes H^^ H^^

I have seen the front row..........from WAY far in the back of the pack!  HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAA

Seriously, the fit and finish on the close up of the nose shows full well this plane is the TOPS when it comes a complete and flawless fit and finish.

There is no doubt this plane will sit up front where ever it goes.

Way to go!!

I have seen that same scenario Larry talks about, better and more outstanding finishes year after year, around here.  Bob G. used to up his bar every year.  I think it was in 2003, he made the front row and the INSIDE of his cowl was painted to match the outside AND he rubbed it out!

VERY NICE MODEL LARRY!!!  VERY NICE!!!

Its much smaller than a Trivial Pursuit. I used a Vector wing, modified for wing mounted landing gear. Everything else is me, with a lot of input from the local big shots.

Hey Larry: tell us about the finish materials.
Dope or auto ?
Which ever you obviously have it pretty well figured out.

Hi Allen.
This will explain the asterick.
Its much smaller than a Trivial Pursuit. I used a Vector wing, modified for wing mounted landing gear. Everything else is me, with a lot of input from the local big shots.
Power is a bar stock R O Jett .61 with the Brett Buck tune.
I hope to fly tomorrow. (I still get the big time jitters when flying a new plane)

Where would that be, Lawrence?  I might come by, if nothing else to be in the sunlight for a change.

The prep was done with Certified clear dope. Filler coats were Certified clear with zinc sterate. Fillets are Sig Epoxo-lite.
Colors were shot with Sig dope and the final clear coats were Certified clear.
After sitting a couple of weeks for the dope to gas off and shrink, it was then color sanded with 1500 and then 2000 paper.
Final rub was with 3M Finesse-it II Finishing Material 05928.
Two coats of Mothers Carnubara Paste Wax and then sealed up with Mothers Hand Glaze.
From the first coats brushed on, to the final rub took about four months.

And yes, it was well worth the time and effort. I hope she gets to sit next to PTG's and Uncle Jimby's birds.

Well, to ease your fears, I can only say what Ted said to me right before my first 2006 NATs flyoff flight - "for God's sake, don't screw up"!

Most exellent advice indeed. As I recall, you took his profound advice, and it served you quite well.

Wow, a tiny plane with huge horses under the hood! It gives me improper thoughts about what to do with the set of Vector ribs that Wynn gave me!

I should probably concentrate on the ones I have in progress...

He said this almost immediately after he left out his hourglass on *his* first flight.

Gee - If I had a Nats champion say " Hey I might come down and watch your first flight" id say " Ill have my driver collect you shortly... "

What an offer, your quite lucky.

Brett might even have insight into your engine run/tune..

From what they tell me he has come across one before.

Quite lucky indeed!!!!
Having the good fortune of flying with Brett, Ted and Dave, has made myself and numerous other fliers, from beginners to expert alike, much better stunt pilots. Which is why it pisses me off to no end, to hear others refer to them as elitist. You have no idea how much of their time they have given to others.
Not to mention all the props, plugs, fuel and whatever else someone may need five minutes before an official flight. I will never be able to thank them enough.

Matts to young to know what a woman is... let alone the subtley in dealing with them.

95% of the women I talk to are my age +/- two or three years. And I know what a woman is  ;)
