Charisma Plans?
« on: January 27, 2019, 06:04:50 PM »
Does anyone know what the differences are between Charisma 1, 2, and 3?

I saw the pics that our resident CL photographer posted om FB and I have to say, this looks like a really beautiful plane with its elliptical wing and tail.

I believe that the mk 2 has fuselage mounted gear, which I would guess wouldn't look as good to me, but I haven't seen a picture of that one yet, so hard to say.
I believe that Tom Dixon has the Charisma 2 plans, but if they have the fuse mounted gear, I would rather go with the earlier wing mounted gear. I cannot find any reference for the plans for the Charisma 1.

I also found a reference for a Charisma 3 on Pat's website.

Any info appreciated.

Target

Chris you should visit Tom Dixon's web site , http://tomdixon.tripod.com/tomdixon.htm .
In the plans section he gives info on both Charisma 1 & 2 but no pictures .
I have a Charisma 1 kit soon to be started on .

Hmmm, thanks Bill. I didn't see the Charisma 1 on the plans listing, but i must have missed it. Where did your kit come from?

My kit came from Tom Dixon , it is listed in his plan section as just Charisma .
He states that he will make a kit of any model in his plan section .

That is very interesting, I will have to call TD...
I get a lot of warnings on his website from my anti-virus, which is too bad.

Thanks for the tip about the kit. Might have to buy one!!

I bought a plane from a local guy that he called a Charmer, and was built from the Dixon Charisma plans. He gave me his plans with it but I haven't figured out what he changed on it to want to change the name. I bought a fresh set of Charisma plans along the line just to check them against. It's a nice flying airplane and you have to like the elliptical lines of the model. It's a good match for the ST.G51. It won me and Sean a few trophies along the way. Might have to build another one someday.

I built one also. It was a real looker...but I don't have any pictures unfortunately. Don't remember if it had wing or fuselage gear. Perfect for a ST-51. It was one of the best flying planes I have built. The wing is try elliptical, curved not straight LE. More work than a non-elliptical wing but worth it.  8)

Yes, that middle picture i posted is a shot that does it justice, for sure. She's a beaut!
Thanks for the input on the ST.51.
Would an OS.46LA be a good match? I might be willing to spring for a ro-jett if i built one. If so, .51? And SE or RE? Wing looks close to the fuse bottom, so i doubt a pipe would fit?

The red one was built by Ted Snow and bought from the estate by Tom Martain he gave it to me to fly and trim out and then give to some one who needed it. Tim Tipton is flying it now. It flys with a Merco 61. I do not think a LA 46 would be adequate but the Tiger 51 would do it. A RO 61 cast case would be my engine of choice for that plane. Good luck with your project.

     This is from the the Tom Dixon website plans section ;
" CHARISMA II - "In-line" version of the Dixon CHARISMA. Fuselage mounted landing gear Aimed at rear-exhaust .46 to .60, but side-exhaust engine is fine too $10.00 ".

Thanks Joe. On the  RO .61, RE or SE? Looks like SE is all there is room for?
Thanks in advance.
Might be the Charmer raised the wing some to accommodate a pipe?

I finally got around to contacting Tom about the Charisma 1 and Charisma 2 plans/kit.

Seems that the 1 is setup with wing mounted gear, and the 2 is all "in line" as Bill mentioned above, and also set up for the RE/Pipe engines.
Tom told me that the C 1 could also take a RE/Pipe, but I would have to deepen the lower pan to cover the pipe.
I'm OK with an SE engine, so I likely would not do that, but I love the wing mounted LG.
Maybe I will get both plans and use the 2 fuse with the pipe setup and use the wing mounted gear.

I also learned that Tom has a returned C1 kit that a fellow bought and never built. He's going to check it for completeness and then I am going to buy it!!
I loves me an elliptical wing AND tail!
