Carved canopy
« on: June 11, 2006, 09:07:44 PM »
I'm building a Formula S for classic (jet styled ship).  I'm going with a carved canopy instead of a plastic canopy (mostly due to time restraint and also for crankcase cooling).  Normally I leave the area of the top block above the motor solid to help with solid nose.  Is it better to get the top block to the point of applying fiberglass and then add the canopy (hollowed of course) or should I also fiberglass over the canopy?

Also, any tips on how to paint the canopy to keep a basic realistic look would be appreciated.

Thanks,

James

Hollow it out and glue it on. Putty it in and fiberglass with .5 cloth and Z-Poxy. Sand prime and paint as normal. Tape and paint light blue with black shadows around the edge.

Or you can do like I do and paint it black. Good luck.

Thanks, if your going to be around Saturday?  We're coming up to St. Louis and Brian and I will be trying to get some flying in at Buder, talked to Gary H. and he wasn't sure if he'd be up to flying or not but to give him a call when we get there.
