The most remote glow plug setup is the one sitting at home 'cause you're currently flying your diesel.
The old 9-Lives battery (I used two in parallel) and alligator clips worked...you surely were not going to take off with them connected. The alligator clips were a little tricky with some half-A engines though. Many just pulled them off after the engine was running...others carefully disconnected the clips.
My favorite is still the clip-on KWIK-KLIP type previously made by various companies.
Actually, remote setups make more and more sense as engines get larger and more powerful, and props get stronger and sharper.
