Elwyn and I stayed for the finish of PA,Combat, and Scale. The Contest awards were given out starting around 2 pm. We got on the road around 3 or 3:30 pm.
The roads in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, and Missouri had a bunch of road killed deer and racoons.(and a few possums) Elwyn swears that he saw a dead bobcat on the side of the road. We used to see a huge cross in Groom, Texas on the way to the VSC. On the way to Brodak's we saw two large crosses along the road. They weren't as large as the one in Groom, but they looked like they had been made by the same company.
We spent saturday night in a small town south of St. Louis. The econolodge was reasonable priced, and they had a good non chain Mexican resturant. We filled up at the BP across the street. It was a lot higher than any other gas we bought on the trip, and they stocked no paper towels in any of the dispensers to use to wipe off your oil dipstick. It's been my experience that any owner who doesn't stock paper towels and lets the appearance slide is usually either from another country OR is just a totally incompetent local citizen.
We got to Broken Arrow at 5pm. I dropped Elwyn off, and drove on home to Tulsa. Ruby was glad to see me, and I gave her the gift that Larry Scarinzi sent along home with me. It was a roll of toilet paper and a white towel. Larry has been doing this for years. It's a running gag.
My Siamese cat Bo, was glad to see me only because one of his servants got back from vacation. (me)
I still have a Brodak cap, T-shirt and Controline World Magazine out in the van that belongs to Elwyn. I'll get them back to you Elwyn.
This was a wonderful contest. Bill Moherbacher, the president of MECA (Model Engine Collector's Association) said it reminded him of the old AMA Nats that the Navy used to host. It was great fun!
Everyday after the contest events were over Dan Banjock and his merry men ( the Philly Fliers) would fly something incredible. (like a jet powered stunter or a double sized Bi-Slob)
I didn't see Big Art Adamisin this year; I hope He is doing well.
The Rusty Brown Award was won By Bob Pardue from Indianapolis. Jack Sheeks nominated him for the award. Bob has hodgkins disease, and his hands shake. However he still builds and flies controline. He flew scale and stunt at Brodaks, and is going to compete at this year's nats.
He richly deserved the Rusty Brown Award.
Speaking of that, we all miss Rusty and Sugar Babe, his west highland terrier.
Great contest!!
