Brodak Fly In
« on: June 09, 2015, 05:27:25 PM »
The Brodak fly in is less than one week away, most are packing their cars  vans and motor homes to get ready for a fun week in John and Buzz Brodak's back yard .

The preregistration numbers are up  from last year , this is on track to be the biggest event ever, the turnout in  all events are well balanced , with a slights increase in  the advanced class of stunt events , expert  going to be well attended also.

Carrier , racing, combat and all of the other events are right in line with previous years, but a  big increase scale

We are adding the 100 mile race this year, it should be a fun event to watch,

Several other slight changes are going on, the biggest change will be the earlier start from the past few years, we start on  Monday this  year  to hive more time to get our events in,   6 days of daylight to dark control line flying ,

Mark Weiss , myself and all of the event directors are looking forward to making this years fly in one of the best ever...

I will post daily info on this post to keep people updated on the fly in  that do not have the opportunity to join us.

Can we clobber the same mole a hundred times, or do we have to hit a hundred different moles. I better build my mole plane with a titanium nose.

My brother and I, who are sport flyers, plan to be at the Fly-in on Monday and Tuesday.  I am hoping to fly beginners in the profile competition with a hand-me-down Magician.   I wrecked the plane on Tuesday.  It is back in one piece and will be finished today.  We have visited to watch several times and have enjoyed putting names with faces.

The weather was good today for the practice day before the contest starts tomorrow, we had a couple rain showers come thru, but lite wind and no sun. Good practice day,

Very busy all day , pretty much all circles going , except around lunch and the evening showers.

All of the normal people are here , too many to name, a few that will not be here this year , due to family and medical problems , but the  preregistration turnout is up around 20 this year,  always add a few more last minute people ,

I will post pictures of scoreboards daily as the events finish,

Today started with thunderstorms and rain until around daylight, light rain during pilots meeting at 7:45.  First flights went off on time around 8:10, we got both rounds with great weather all day, a light  wind during second round that was shifting , minor gust during times , but great weather, fun day .

We were treated to a great dinner this evening from the Carmichaels American legion post 400, thanks you Bob Zambelli for recommending this to us.

When we left the field around 8:30. People were still flying ,

Good flying day today , better conditions in the evening , windy early in the day, today was classic , perky and carrier, only results I have are beginner and intermediate ,

Right after the last flight of stunt, we had a thunder shower come thru, rain for about 1 hour then we had great flying , stunt heaven , after we got back from another great meal from the  American legion post 400,

Clown racing was delayed until tomorrow due to the rain

Brian Malin put in a maiden flight with his new russian  scale stunter,  a few basic flight people were getting in their flights , getting ready for tomorrow,, the OTS ignition planes were tuning up their models,

Tomorrow is OTS , 100 mile race  and the rescheduled clown race

Banjok flew the dynajet Stunter around 8:45, loud stunt at it's best,

Zuriel,

Yes we have been pretty busy, but enough time to post a few pics. We have dodged rain pop up storms all week, but it has been a uneventful week, we only delayed one event all week. Great weather for flying , no wind today

Today was speed limit combat, scale ,  appearance points judging ,  training flights for the kids ,  pilots choice voting , 100 mile race , and fun flying, demo flying and stunt practice  until dark,

Banjok put up a late evening flight on the jet Stunter around 8:45,  pulse jet glowing in the low light was quite a site , loud stunt at it's best

The 100 mile race was over 1400 laps and about 1.5 hours , good competition,

Combat was well attended and even had veteran flyer and engine man Henry Nelson entered,

Looks like Joe's going to have to get a bigger trophy room!  At the risk of sounding like a self proclaimed savant, I predicted Joe would be a force to be reckoned with after judging a couple of his Nats flights a few years ago.  The guy can fly and he has a great support team!  That's a tough combination.  It's going to be a really tough battle at Muncie next month...and, hopefully, at Houston a little later.  Knowing a couple of others who weren't in the mix for the last one will be back I'm really keen on the US team's chances down under.  Go USA!

Ted
