Hey, look at that!!!

Robert, I wish you would stop being so dramatic.  They have rules cycles every two years.  It will come up again, and again, and again, and again.

Statistical evaluation of the “STUNT HANGAR BOM POLL” reveals the following:

126 total votes.  69 (54.76%) vote to keep BOM.  57 (45.24%) vote to eliminate.

The statistical margin of error for any poll is 0.05, meaning that any margin of 0.05 or below is considered a statistical tie.  The statistical margin for this poll is 0.0952.  That is 0.0452 above the margin of error.  The percentage above the margin of error represents the statistical margin of the majority.

Conclusion:  Out of the 126 voters, those who favor keeping the BOM are in the majority by a margin of 0.0452.  Not a landslide; however, it is a statistical majority.

No need to slam or make negative comments.  These are the stats of the results of the 126 voters voting in the poll.

If you have any questions or don’t understand the statistical evaluation, please send me a PM.

Good job, but shouldn't you have waited until the number of votes at least matched the number in the first poll? Currently we have 126 total compared to I believe around 165 total in the first poll. Also there were more no votes in the first poll compared to this one. Where did they go?

According to the voting directions, polling closed at 1:37 PM today.  Yes, not as many voted in this poll as the last one.  Remember, a poll is only a representation of those who choose to vote.  It does not necessarily represent the opinion of the total majority of those who build and fly C/L models nationwide.  I imagine everyone is loosing interest in the polls and are busy building their winter projects.

here's two more conclusions just for kicks:

1) pro-BOM folk prefer to visit this forum more than anti-BOM folk.
2) pro-BOM folk care more about the issue than anti-BOM folk.

I guess I fail to see the need for making conclusions. Making the conclusion sound "scientific" is just PR, especially with these kinds of numbers. 126 votes is not even 10% of this forum's memership(1352)! Now, that's a number large enough to make conclusions out of! 9 out of 10 forum members DON'T CARE about the issue!

Yes, or busy buying their 2008 planes.  I have it all covered for this winter.  I am building a Colossus kit, a Tom Morris Quick Build (ARC), and a scratch built Ringmaster 576.  Well, almost scratch, I did have Dee Rice make me some leading edges for the Ring576.  All BOM legal!

I would point out that with this low a vote total, statistical analysis becomes an exercise in futility. There isn't a statistically significant number of people participating. Just the staight numbers are enough without much analysis.

There probably should have been a third choice: Don't care.

This has been such a devisive issue that I suspect "don't care" would be the winner. But that's what folks do that know the majority is against them. They make the entire question so unpleasant that people become apathetic.

You know what?
BOM or no BOM, I'm going to keep building my own planes.

As I see it the BOM rule makes no allowances for ARFs and ARCs. I could live with dropping the BOM rule so long as the model still garnered appearance points. ARFs and ARCS should be on the low end of the scale. Perhaps with caps on how many points they are allowed.
A premium should be allotted to kit, plan and scratch built models so as to promote and continue the art of building.

That is exactly why I voted to KEEP the BOM.
Plus taking away appearance points for building is equal to giving up to 20 extra points to any yahoo that's too lazy to build and buys an ARF instead.

The 2004 elections in the US brought out more than 58% of the voting age population to poll stations, not 10%.

So, less than 2/3 voted. In fact, not very much over half of the registered voters. And that was considered good. The previous election, it was closer to 45%.
