Bob was a good friend to everyone. The planes he brought to contests were in a class of their own...an impeccable Novi, his Barnstormer, his Bandit on spark ignition, they all were at the VSC.
Then he brought out his SweetSweep, a different sort of combat plane that brought awe to the unknowing fliers, and great memories to those who flew Sweeps at age 14 back in 1957.
Bob won combat at the NATs around 1964, he could fly well because he could see well.
