Bob Libscomb passed away peacefully last night. Bob was a great man, control line nats winner, master machinist, great builder and flier, most of all a great friend. Alzheimer’s. Mike Krizan.

That is indeed sad news.  I flew for him in Rat during the 60's.   I swear he could have a plane pitted and back in the air before the prop stopped.  It was exhausting.  When I returned to CL in 2017 I asked about him and was told he ill.  RIP Bob

Bob used to fly Ignition stunt at the VSC. He was using a Dunham Orwick .64 Dunham was a english made replica. His broke a crankshaft. A lot of Dunham .64's had problems breaking cranks.

In has machine shop Bob made two crankshafts that worked perfectly.

That impressed a lot of people, me included.

My first flying sessions after I joined the Army and got to my first duty station at Ft Hood were with Bob and Jim Thomerson down in Austin.  Super nice guy.  Godspeed, Bob.

So sorry to hear this. I remember Bob very well from the ignition circle at VSC. He loved flying ignition. We had a lot in common.

Bob was a good friend to everyone. The planes he brought to contests were in a class of their own...an impeccable Novi, his Barnstormer, his Bandit on spark ignition, they all were at the VSC.

Then he brought out his SweetSweep, a different sort of combat plane that brought awe to the unknowing fliers, and great memories to those who flew Sweeps at age 14 back in 1957.

Bob won combat at the NATs around 1964, he could fly well because he could see well.
