Alright guys,
All of you cats who have been complaining about not enough power. We have the solution right here. This is just the ticket for those "Lampione weight" stunters.

Homemade. The engine is a Saito 72. The motor has a special "popoff" valve just like the real jobs. They need to get this thing in an RC off road car ASAP!!

Several years ago OS had a supercharged version of the 1.2 Surpass four stroke R/C engine.  The blower was mounted on the rear of the case and was, I think, driven off the crank shaft or the crank pin.

As I recall, it was on the market for a year or two.........

Cheers,
Jim

My guess is that there's a duct running from the rear at the base of the blower over to the intake port.

Proparc,
A stock Saito 72 should rip the wings right off that Kadet. I flew a Kadet for years with a OS 70FS and I never lacked for power. I built the wing straight with flaps and ailerons. I had to add a couple of hardwood dowels to the center section and then sheeted and glassed it for exrtra strength. Really funny to see a Kadet doing a Knife Edge full length of Sepulveda Basin. Loved that plane. I built floats for it and went to Havasu.

"Saito FA 182 TD" with twin blowers and twin carbs for each blower. Is that to your liking Scott? Somebody tell me how to get hold of the owner of the "Saito 71" please, Thank You. I already have the engine, I need the info.

Not to pop anyones bubble but this looks like a neat novelty item. Knowing about engines (as this is what I do for a living) I would venture to guess that this robs more power than it produces. Unless the guy who made the blower is a EXTREMELY GREAT machinist the tolerances would be too close. Even on full size blowers the fit has to be perfect to be effective. But not many guys can say I have a blown HEMI in my airplane.

Looks like it's mounted on a box that has an outlet on the rear to the intake valve.

As it is probably a home shop project it could be a spring loaded or centripidal force loaded "sliding vane" config.  Works the same as the Roots without the fit problems.  Very high friction however.

I think it is a great achievement from an engineering standpoint. The blower has 5 high precision ball bearings inside it. The engineering of the pop off valve mechanism alone is worth the accolades. The square block under the blower is a miniaturized manifold just like the big dogs-amazing. It starts easy, is fully throttable, is reliable. It shows an understanding of a Saito 72 that even I didn't have,( I know more about my 72 than my ST 46).

I have pictures and videos of a perfect reproduction of a 1/5 scale running Merlin V12. It has 6000 parts and took 7000 hours to complete and it runs beautifully. Certainly not for everyday use, but man, some things are just plain cool. As to the 72, - a fully blown, hemi head, nitro burning, fully throttable Saito, brother, that gets my vote. H^^

Propare sent me 40+ pictures of a 20% Merlin under construction. Way too many to post here. He also sent a video of it running, here it is. The man who built this engine (Mr. Hares)  is an extremely gifted machinist.
