Baton Rouge Meet
« on: October 16, 2011, 10:19:53 PM »
Let me first say, Doug Patterson and the "crew" in the "Rouge," put on one heck of a meet. For those of you who didn't attend...you missed some fantastic food, friendship and some impressive flying. The weather was some of the best conditions I've seen in some time. The engines were making some great horse power with a little bit of "unexpected; abnormal fuel consumption." There were two "Electrics" in expert, that were quite impressive. Thanks to all for a great weekend.

Tommy Mansur provided the eats and I must say, those were the best tasting "cajun" burgers I have ever eaten.
I only know that Gilbert was having fuel problems.  I used the exact same amount on my ST 60.  It pulled like a mule.

My first visit to Baton Rouge for CLPA (did do an RC Pattern Contest there sometime in the last century), but not my last.

Spent some time with some old friends, made some new ones, enjoyed good food, good weather and saw some good flying!  What's not to like?

Thanks to the guys that made it happen. H^^

A great contest, the best weather we've seen all summer long, most enjoyable group of people you'd ever want to be around.  So good to see people from the other side of the river.

Doug and crew did a great job.

Great zydeco music and good eatin ...... wait a minute .... you said "cajun hambugers",  there wasn't possum or alligator in those patties was there?

I wish  that I could have made it. The last time I was at Baton Rouge we had 20 mph winds, and still flew. It is always a good times event complete with the Cajun restaurant. I hope to be there next year.

Lonestar AKA Frank, don't give away the "secret" reciepe on the "cajun" burgers.  The 'possum and 'gator are what gives it that "great" flavor..   LL~ LL~ LL~

Now wait a minute my Loosianer bros, don't sceare dim out de state fellers, you know dair was coon, turtle, marsh chic'in,  and a li'l beef in dim bergers. Les be trootful wit de peoples. We tank all uh yawl for de kind complidemints, but as brodder Gil says, "It  was you the contestants that made the contest so wonderful. We just set up a place for it to happen and all you fine folk that came provided the great flying, the good times of fellowship, and the giving of love.  Next is the ladies doing the tabulating, and all other manner of duties that deserve the most credit. Thank you, Cathy Causey, Kathleen Patterson, Mrs. Bowman, and Shelia Cranfill (who is always working so hard at every contest along with her husband Don who always pitches in to help any way he can even though he comes to compete), next a big thanks to judges Gil Causey, Donnie Melancon, Nick Iauzza, and Merle Pettigrew ( who was called upon at the last minute due to our other judge having to work),  Then, we had Matt Davidson a new beginner flyer who is quickly learning the pattern, do yeoman's duty running scores for both circles along with Mrs. Bowman, Joe's wife, and finally the man behind the scenes, Tommy Mansur, providing the canopies, tables, chairs, the marvelous hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch, the water and sodas, and doing the critical liaison work with park officials to get the flying area in good shape.
We need to also acknowledge the fliers who donated some great stuff for the raffle: Mike Donovan, Andy Stokey, Perry Rose, Norm Faith, Allan Perret. They gave engines, kits, C/L equipment. If I have left someone out please let me know via e-mail and I will amend my thread. All the other engines, kits, glow starters, money, and fuel were discounted and/or donated by Andy Chase sr. of Hobby Towne. This wonderful guy has supported our hobby and our contest every single year since its inception. More importantly what we appreciate about Andy is his genuine friendship and concern for the Control-Line modelers in the Baton Rouge area.
I know I'm running on here, but when I hear how much enjoyment you folks had at the contest, I need to see that the people responsible are acknowledged. One other person who contributed was Raymond Dore' who gave new C/L handles he makes to the raffle. They are super quality and he is a real super guy.
         Godspeed,
                         Doug
