Band-Aids

One of the things that has morphed in the last couple decades is the simple Band-Aid, and I'm not real happy about the "progress".......sure, the adhesive is stickier, and more flexible, but the wrappings seem almost impossible to remove!
I cut my finger fairly deep the other day...squirting blood....to the bandage box I went.....holding the piece of paper towel onto the cut while trying to get the bandage ready to apply. It took me two tries and about five minutes to successfully unwrap something and get it stuck over the cut.
Re-applying took a similar amount of time after I dissolved the thing with paint thinner...and it turned out that I applied the "sticky" over the cut, and the pad over a fingernail...
I am going to seek replacements today...
Does anyone still make a "standard" bandage like we grew up with? I'll even take one with cartoon characters on it....

I prefer the Curad Flex-Fabric bandages.  They stick very well and are fairly easy to open  Much preferred over plastic strips.

Remember the "old days" when the band-aid wrappers had that little red thread you pulled to open?  Sometimes it worked!

I use Co-ban(sp?) Its like sport tape...I always have plenty for my horses. All colors...for some reason, I like the black best!

Me, when I get a cut is during a race or start of a flight.  Then it is pull out the old snot rag and wrap the injured area as tight as I can as soon as I can.   Left blood in the center circle at St Louis one year during an Ice-O-Lated  get together.

I use Band-Aid brand fingertip bandages. They just work better than other stuff I've tried. Nothing worse than a bandage that won't stick.

But that's just me.

Actually it will work in a pinch...LOL...but electrical tape around here is hard to find. It gets wound up on hoe handles, radiator hoses, kitchen sink drains, and floppy shoe soles!

One of my teenage friends I grew up with always swore there wasn't nuthin couldn't be fixed with any one or combo of duct tape, bailing wire and Ford pliers. 

For some reason I've taken to keeping a bandaid in the back of my wallet. Have given that one away and replaced it more than I needed one myself. I like the Curad "sports" style cloth ones, cost more but flex and stay put. If you are bandaid challenged, they do sell a liquid bandage, comes with a little brush in the bottle. Some minor down sides are that it burns like the dickens...and it won't fit in the back of my wallet.

The liquid bandage works fine for small cuts. but if it's really bleeding, the stuff is much less effective. CA will sometimes close a gash, but a Band-Aid still works the best.

Note: stay away from the cheap copy band aids. They tend to not stick well and fall off easily. This is a place where you get what you pay for.

When I get gashed at the field I just bite off the cap of my gunpowder flask (because what self respecting modeler would be caught without one of these) and empty the contents on the gaping wound and light it with my unfiltered cigarette.
