Well in less than 5 minutes I renewed my membership with the AMA for 2024.   Now means I have to live another year to take advantage of it.   Can't beleive they are worried about me renewing.  Guess they need the money to promote the drones.

Hay john I am 83 and paid up for two years of AMA Go figure!

We NEED a national aero club and AMA is what we have.
At least we still have ONE flying field.
Without RC and drone income, Control Line would have a hard time keeping AMA in business.

I haven't flown since 1976 but have kept my membership up because I support the hobby and I want to keep my number, 62221.

Wish I had done the same.  Not only did they lose my membership record, they said I never had my number in the first place. (1538).
They said it was a CD number but couldn't give me that one because it belonged to someone else since before 1980 and they don't reuse CD numbers.  I just happened to still have a 1984 card clearly marked "Contest Director".  They still insisted I did not exist.  When I asked who had that number, they said they couldn't tell me.  Luckily my original number from the 60's was available (15382) showing as having never been issued.  I should have listed Drones as my favorite category, they would have fixed it on the spot!  So, whomever has my number I hope they are winning!  When I think of all of those contests that I entered and CD'd with a "fake" AMA card/number.
 
Lesson - pay your dues even if think you will never fly again.

Wow !!  I assumed (wrongly, as usual) that since numbers are infinite, it would be one-and-done when a member number was issued.  I thought when I rejoin I could have my old number back.  Oh well, I'll just fly a bunch of planes with someone else's number painted on the wings.  Not like I'm ever going to win anything anyway.

I guess I've been lucky.  I've lapsed for several years twice and both times was able to get my original number back.  I wanted my number back because it's easy to remember: ten, thirty-four, thirty-four (103434) and I had it on my free flight models.

Last time I renewed my membership (68 years old), I went for two years because I expected the out of control inflation to cause an increase in dues.

I remember my first AMA licence it cost me whopping $3.00.  Of course I was still a Junior then.
