I just acquired an old Scientific Beechcraft with a McCoy 38 engine mounted.

It is a rear rotor type with a black head and an angled plug.

I have never seen this engine before, does any one know anything about them?

Thanks,
Chris...

That looks like the one, Ty.

This one is sleeve bearing, ringed piston, crankpin broken off, and the rotor is stuck. Special edition!

Anyone got a crank for a Sportsman 36?

Chris...

I bet someone who really wanted to do the job could drill out the old crankpin and replace it.  A real machinist, not me.  If I did it the pin would be crooked, and that wouldn't last long. Or maybe you'll get lucky and a common crank will interchange.

A lot of parts surprisingly interchange. If the stroke is the same, you may find an RV 29 shaft will fit. Of course, you've still got to find one!

I'm trying a few guys I know of, Tom Lay, Mike Pratt, Frank Bowman, etc. I'll probably find one.

The web isn't complete around the back, so the pin and part of the web broke off, not so easy to fix this type of failure, it just needs a new or serviceable unit.

I even found a CAD drawing of the outside view of the engine on the internet.

Thanks for your help, eveyone.

Chris, I have a whole drawer full of McCoys.  I will look and see if I have what you need.

Yes Phil,

That is it! This one I have has a sleeve bearing. They came both ways. Also has a keyed output shaft.

Here are some pics of it and the crank to clarify.

Louis, thanks for looking.
