Seems like there are three approaches to this situation:

May I go out flying?  :'(

        I'm going out flying.  >:D

I just got back from flying.   VD~

The last one is based on the premise that it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission.   LL~ LL~

Also nice when you have a place to go flying. Hopefully, I can make the drive to the club's temporary site, but it can't be a spur of the moment thing since it's 1.5 to 2 hours through traffic. What fun.

It can't be that bad....  I went flying yesterday and only took one of the kids, my daughter Grace who flew inverted for the first time and did not turf it  :##, and my wife mowed the grass while I was gone as well as had stuff ready to eat when we got back.  Don't all wives do this?

Not with the current girl fiend of ten years.  I did with the X-wife, which I might add is why there is a big X in front of wife.  The girl friend actually encourages me to go flying, I just may keep her a while longer.

I don't mean to highjack this thread but I can't miss acknowledging Grace's successful inverted flight.  It has been a joy this year to watch the Paris kids progress.

If you have not met John Paris, he is one of the good guys!!!  When we were at Sig this year, Gary Frost bounced his plane off of the ground and sheared off the landing gear.  John searched through his parts boxes, found some spare clips and we were able to repair the gear.  Gary flew the next day.

John Paris gets my vote for "Stunt Grunt".

All you have to do is retire, build airplanes (do all the house work, don't forget to do all the yard work, kiss a$$ and then maybe not a problem, Ha Ha). Don't forget you have to get old, so they don't need you anymore. I have scheduled days that I fly. I just let everyone know I will be gone on them days and guess what it works most of the time. Have a great day, Gary

Hi guys, did you explain to your spouse how much cheaper your investment can be each time you go flying!

If you buy a ARF Score for approximately hundred dollars and you buy a K&B 61 for approximately a hundred dollars that is two hundred dollars, so the first time you fly wouldn't that be two hundred plus flying fuel, driving gas, (we won't talk about flying equipment, we'll just have to sneak and buy that.) etc. Six ounces of fuel per flight, (fuel around sixteen dollars per gallon=approximately thirteen cents per ounce, so that would be around .78 per flight).

First flight would be $200.78, so would the second flight be $199.78? Each flight would eliminate a dollar, wouldn't be long before you could be flying for .78 a flight. Maybe as much as six flights per visit. This would make flying financially successful.

Don't forget you will have to have Frank's Mo Jo, so you don't crash.

If you explain flying from this angle she might want you to go fly, so you can save money.

Have a great day, Gary (GOOD LUCK!)

I to hate to hijack this, but in response, my stepdaughter just got her initiation this weekend, Does Grace do email? maybe she could communicate with mine and help keep the enthusiasm up. jessica soloed start to finish on her third flight. flew 3 more after that before it was getting to dark. Kudos to the advanced and expert fliers that were still at the contest for paying attentino and clapping and congratulating her on each great flight! She talked about it for most of the 8 hour ride home lol, I am loving it! and thanks to Pat Johnston for working her up right.

By the way Jessica is 14

I think you guys have Paul's question all wrong.....I think he wanted to know if you've ever had to miss a month of flying.
And then when talking to your buddy he tells you he's burnt a gallon of fuel since Tuesday you have to look at your pal and say " Gee I haven't been flying for a month!!."

But as to wives.........What works really good is ........ hand her your credit card and tell her that if there's anything she needs she can pick it up tomorrow while you're out flying.

Grace Paris can really fly very well. She's been beating a lot of the boys at contests. I really hope she and the boy can find a way to make it a lifelong activity............imagine how good they could get.

Frank - makes perfect sense to me. Any man who does that is an absolute saint - makes me envious.

Never been married but I would think the wife would just take the card and shop around for just a few items that are absolutely necessary - she would never consider buying anything frivolous.

Isn't that the way it works?   LL~ LL~ LL~

Well there certainly is a fair amount of humor here. If all was true then there would be precious little flying and even less to talk about on this forum.
That said, I'm not married, i go flying when the mood strikes me, paint, build etc, all in the peace and quiet of my home. So I guess that old thing is true, have wives, not children, you can get rid of wives, never children.Or enough of this nonsense and realize that the minute that you run out of clean socks and underware, you'd be in deep do do.  y1  H^^

The credit card thing dont work.  I tell my wife to come and go as she pleases, buy what she wants (within reason) and she still gets PO'd at me.  Heck I even help with the laundery and clean the Bathrooms.  What does she say, "you did it wrong".  My answer, "honey I've been in Textiles for 15 years and sit on the board for the home laundery committee of the American Assoc. of Textile Colorists and Chemists.  I did the laundery right, you do the laundery wrong. "  That always gets a chuckle out of her daddy.

I'm convinced my wife is not happy unless she has something to fuss about.  I quit worrying about it and started doing what I wanted to do when I wanted to do it.  Do I pay for it every once in a while, yep, but forgiveness is often easier to get than permission.

I here it all the time...I've flown twice this week.....I'm going flying Friday, Saturday and Sunday......  HB~>
How about you? Been flyin lately?....Sure everyday this week......... LL~ LL~    But it is no because of the wife!

Several years back we were looking to buy land to build on and her one stipulation was that there would have to be enough room for a flying field.  Well I have a field 150ft from my door and not enough time to fly. She always tells me that I need to make the time....otherwise what is the point of building all those planes?

I think I'll keep her!

I get off work at 3pm, while my wife gets off at 6pm. The flying field (such as it is), is pretty much on the way home...or on the way to Gator's Pub, my choice, depending on how crappy the weather is. If I want to go flying on Saturday, I go. If I want to go flying on Sunday, I go. If I want to stop at Gator's for breakfast, I do that, too. I'm in deep doodoo anyway, so why not go flying?  S?P Steve

My wife is a big reason why my flying improved. She has been a great coach and supporter of what "We" do.

I guess it makes a difference when you start out with someone who knows what this is all about.

My previous response went missing but I think it is worth repeating...

I've been married to a first rate woman for almost twenty years.  She's very supportive of me and generally supportive of my hobbies.  I hope I never have to choose between her and model planes.  I like having both.  If I did have to choose, she would win.

Hi Wayne - a truly noble and honest response. Great to see that kind of dedication to a wife instead of a hobby.

Although not married, I do indeed have a Ladyfriend who is absolutely enamored with model aviation.

Her favorite time of year is the Brodak Fly In, which she tries to attend every day.

Additional factors that may explain her enthusiasm: Her sister is Buzz Brodak, her brother-in-law is John Brodak.

Make sense?

Wow , guys , i can so relate!! You see, i normally leave my lines out since i fly daily in the backyard. Just last week my fiancee got one of the lines crossed when she rolled them up to mow the airfield to exactly 7/8 inch. She shows up all the time to launch (co-pilot) with her stewardess outfit wrinkled. And the other day she brought me a beverage to the field just not quite cold enough and overcooked my steak on the grill!!!   What's a guy to do??  (Wedding is set for Nov. 24th)
