An enjoyable weekend!
« on: September 07, 2020, 06:43:46 PM »
This weekend I got down to Dallas and flew with the Texas gang in their contest.  It was a great time and got to see a few who didn't get to the Nats.  Got to sit for a time to reminisce with Dick Byron and Gary James, KC boys in the past.  Dale Gleason and the Dallas club put on a good contest and the weather  behaved.  Got to see Doug Moon's new ship and held my own in a tough crowd I guess.
I got as far home as Tulsa before dark so laid over there and got home this morning.  My daughter's fiancé' Mark came to town for the weekend.  He took me out and I got about a half hour of stick time on the Cirrus.  That is cool!  Then we changed gears and I took him out to my flying field and got him soloed on one of my small trainers.  Flying C/L felt amazingly like flying the Cirrus so he took to it immediately.  Now we need to get him set up with a bigger, better airplane to continue learning.  I just landed a Magician kit off the bay............

I'll attach a couple pics from the flight on the Cirrus.

All in all a full and tiring weekend.

That yoke in my right hand felt much like flying a stunt ship.  That little cap on the top is for fine attitude trim.  Buzzing along at about 280 knots here and 3000 ft.

Sorry to have missed you.  Had I made it I would have probably been judging so maybe that is a good thing. LL~  I always look forward to meeting in person those that are regulars here.  Congratulations on a good showing.  That is the gang I fly with so I know what you were up against.
It was tough to finally see Stunt Contest perfect weather at one of our contests and not be able to be there.

Ken

PS - what is it you are flying?

Ken I have a new version of Desperado-this one I call Driftwood.  I changed the top deck forward of the canopy,  added largish wheel pants and found ways to build it much lighter,  about 67 ounces including a good slug of lead in the tail.  Most of my best ones are 71-73.  It’s identical twin is 64 but not flown or trimmed yet.  RO Jett .76 on pipe.  Building them this light seems to automatically make them nose heavy.  Even so these pretty much obsolete the older ones.  Yes sorry I missed you this time.

I was curious what real airplane you were flying.  That interior is something else.  I come from an airplane family and have the honor of being the only one of my generation without a license!  Cousin flies  KingAir out of John Wayne, brother is a test pilot at MIT.  We live about a mile from Addison and get a constant flow of small "Experimentals" and WWII restorations flying over.

Something's not quite right here. A proper control "stick" should be right in the middle and anchored to the cockpit floor.

Floyd something else that might drive you nuts-above 200 ft. the rudder pedals lock and the computer takes over that function.  There are small ventral fins that control that totally on their own until you drop to 200 ft. just before touchdown.  Also the nose wheel isn't steerable-ground maneuvering is solely by brakes on the rear wheels.
