Am I missing something?
« on: April 02, 2006, 10:55:07 PM »
Am I missing something, or is there really only four pages of discussion topics since this site began? Just seems like I look a lot but see very few new posts. Maybe everyone's just too busy finishing that new model for spring?

This site has not been up that long yet and people are still learning if you don't supply your full name as required you don't get to play.  Robert Storick is one great guy to start this forum and keep clean.  Later,  DOC Holliday

Part of it is that there isn't all that much to say.  If I have a question and I really need an answer, I'll usually search for an answer offline in the magazines and plans, etc.   Next choice is to search the online forums.  If I still can't find the answer I'm looking for I'll go directly to the experts.  Once in a while when I need a quick answer I'll post a question, but usually I end up going with my best guess before there's a reply.

When there's something I want to contribute there usually isn't any interest.  Rather then post something that will meet with criticism and/or disinterest I rarely post.

There seem to be a lot more people here reading then actually participating.

I think the answer is much deeper than the above responses... personally I don't participate in this forum anymore, this is the first time I have written anything for weeks and several weeks ago removed all my posts, photos and responses (except a comment I made about a fun video I purchased from one of the 'classified' ads)

Well Jim enlighten us as to why? Could it be because we allow no controversy or BS?

There is not much going on anywhere anyhow.

I count 32 on SSW here is our today
Average posts per day: 43.79
Average topics per day: 7.55
Total Boards: 12
Latest Member: Jack Conley
Average on line per day: 39.8

Not bad for a new forum! If you choose not to participate that fine. You have made 4 posts in three months. Feel free to go elsewhere. It is not over managed. If you look at the other forums right now you will see at this minute there are more people here. One of the reasons it looks as if nothing is going on is the amount of sections you have to post in. Like SSW has open forum as we do, but we also have engine ,design and 3 or 4 others depending on you status. If you look at Ultra right now you will see maybe 2 people on it. I can tell you right now there is at lease 10-40 people on this site. Up to 102.

This is like TV if you don't like the program turn the channel.

I cruise back and forth to several control line sites. My visits indicate that all three light up and get busy at the same time. Lulls in the action are the same.

My preferance is Stunt Hangar.

DARN!!........I hadn't thought of this before, but, I guess I feel disappointed that I missed that honor.

Hey, Sparky. Since that reply was posted and introduced for public consumption, would you please e-mail it to me? I'm really curious. And I won't pass it on unless I just can't resist.

Oh...... I don't know just how I missed that.  ??? ???

I'm sure Jim can come back and post to his heart's content, though.  He definitely hasn't been banned from the site since he posted to this thread!   Not being sarcastic here, either.  I do want to see as much participation from everyone that is possible!  We all have much to add and learn.

He said we were over managed and had no content. No he is not banned. Funny thing is, his post was the first removed for negitive content and yet we are over managed.

Everyone has an opinion.  We are brand new, so to speak, as a Board.  It takes time to grow anything.

After seeing the problems on the two previous "main" forums that have been experienced because of the great and numbing dearth of political issues, it is great to me to have a place where model airplanes are the focus.  Problem is, too many do not have much to say right now about Model Airplanes only.

But, to have Ted and Randy as leaders of two forums, each about as knowledgeable as anyone can get, I see great potential to this Board in the future.

As can be seen from above: Mr. Storick affirms I gave an answer to his specific question. The fact that he deleted it does not reflect on me nor the answer I gave. Why ask a question if you don't want an answer?

Having participated in a variety of online forums over the last 11 years, and having moderated a forum for a few years, I can honestly say that this one is managed exceptionally well.  It isn't biased based on popularity or politics.  The content here is on topic, identities are disclosed freely, and discussion is kept in a fairly civil atmosphere.  That is the way it should be.

Maybe it's because no one here serves to make a profit off of popular opinion?

My question was just out of simple curiousity, nothing more.   Why some people nowadays have to WAY over anaylize every single little thing that they see or deal with in their lives on a constant basis is beyond me. It's becoming almost the norm it seems in society, and frankly I feel it's very pathetic. I am a parts manager in a multi-franchise powersports dealership so I deal with the public all day, every day. People really need get back to the days when you actually had to show personal responsiblity for things, and quit whining and stomping their feet until they get their way just because they feel that everything they don't like is someone else's fault.
My comments here are in no way directed at this forum, or meant to be negative, it's just my view on general society these days. Consider it my two-cents worth of trying to stop all the whining. Let's not lower ourselves to the level of all the crybabies out there.
Now, let's have fun with some model airplanes! :)
