A good paint scheme for the YAK9 D Kit

May be Jim.  Actually I have seen them almost white which was a winter color with the red stars.  I will probably go with  a brighter color with more white than grey.  The red star sticks out very well.

It's pretty hard to "lose" a C/L stunter, regardless of paint colors.  Remember, they never get further than 70 feet away! Besides, when I fly, I'm sure my eyeballs are always on the plane, which never gets lost!

Floyd, there are ways to 'lose' a stunter...in the sun, against the trees, etc. Don't forget that the judges are another 80' or so away, so that is more like 150+ feet.

We see Barbarossa regularly here on the West Coast and I can tell you it is one striking airplane, in the air or on the ground. Hard to beat that paint scheme and it would be very visible against any background it is likely to encounter.

To me they just look like individual exhausts from a V 12 engine...

I believe lots of currently flying Yak fighter warbirs ("original" and reproductions) use Allison V-1710 engines: much easier to get engines and parts then for the original Klimovs.

I like the scheme you picked. Actually whiter, IMHO, would look better.

Did you know I offer most of the numbers and graphics for the Yak? Certainly what I have is drawn for larger models, but a simple "size" then type in the measurement, is all it takes to make things smaller!

Everything shown here is YAK-9U's,  Understandable it was the last version and the best.
The differences between it and the -9D are many but the most obvious ones are the rearward location of the radiator (at the back of the wing on the -U, and under the center of the wing on the -D), the -D has a very obvious scoop under the nose, and no air intakes at the root cuff of the wing like
the -U, and the canopy is longer on the -D also.
I tried to find a good photo of a -D model but most of whats available seem to be the later versions.  Most of them are still flying so that's not a surprise.
