Thanks Louie!  This was only the 3rd and 4th flights.  I'm sure I'll be a lot better once I get the 50th flight on it!!

And I'm going to need a lot of luck, I want to make the top 15 in advanced, and give Ryan Young a run for his money in Senior!

I think that I fly that airplane darn well and it still being BRAND NEW!  I'm sidelined for a few days with this plane because somehow the header bolts vibrated there way loose, and I lost one of them, so we ordered a pack of 100 for 8 bucks on the internet.  Once I get them, and put them in the engine (yes we made sure that we ordered 5-40s and the correct length).

I remember when I could barely do a loop, let alone two at the same time, and they also looked like reverse figure 9s. It's kind of amazing that was only 5 years ago, and now I'm flying airplanes with piped engines, and an expert!

My grandfather has been flying stunt since the 50s.  He got out of it for a while, then got back into it again in the 60s (he spent a lot of time around Champione and Gene Schaffer during that period of time).  He dropped out again in the 70s and got back into it once again around 1990.  he's been flying ever since and doesn't intend to quit.

He went to Muncie back in 1996 for the NATS and came in 18th in advanced, hopefully he'll either equal that or be better than that 18th spot.  I've been wanting to go to the NATS ever since I started flying stunt, and now it's finally coming to fruition!!!

There's a Go-Kart track!?!?!?!?!?!?!  I'm also planning on bringing my stunt kite with me for the inevitable winds at Muncie, so if it's so windy nobody's flying, I'll bring that out, should be fun to try out!

Have not been at the NATS for two years now, but the Boy Scouts used to have a tent to serve breakfast and lunch.  For me it beat sitting in a restaurant waiting for the food or service.  Depending on where you stay there is always something going.  Yes do take in the Texas Roadkill.

3. Beer? as a attraction? pssssssst....... let you know a leettle secret....... you can get it at any 7-11....... don't tell a soul. Shame on you corrupting the morals of a minor!
4. Pickup Trucks, one thing Indiana and Minnasota seem to have a whole ton of, they seem to congregate at said road houses. Oh and can't forget the tractor pulls.
5. If surveryed people between the ages of 15 and 25 would say that they go somewhere else, anywhere else, to have fun. The rest hang out at the local mall.

I'm using a RO Jett 76 like you said, and my pipe length is 19.25".  The prop I'm currently using is a 14-5 Rev Up.  These props are getting very hard to find since they aren't being made anymore.  I'm going to be trying out a few other props to see what the plane and engine like better before we go to Muncie.  My launch RPMs is 8500.  I'm also using a 6 ounce metal tank and total run time is about 6:30.

I've seen that UFO that Danny had last year on Windy's video.  Definitely looks very cool and I saw a picture where his van was all loaded with stuff, and it was amazing all of it was intact!

I just looked at the long range weather forecast for the Muncie area.  According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, they're saying thunderstorms and hot temps prior to the NATS, and then sunny and seasonable temperatures during the week!

Today was a bad day to be a stunt engine in northern Vermont.  My grandfather's Double Star .50 in his Big Job had the muffler break from stress and vibration.  I need a new header for my RO-Jett 76, and my OS. 35 in the Ares saw her last flight as the bushing finally wore out.  It was belching and coughing through half of my pattern and not to mention lost power, and also I can move the spinner up and down and side to side.  Oh well, we'll swap out for another OS 35 we have in the next couple days and get that one rebushed since it ran so nice earlier.

The header is slotted, not a hole through the metal, and we've determined after talking to Richard Oliver that that's one of the reason's why the header came loose.  Also the bolts that were in the engine were the incorrect length.  Richard is sending us a new header, and the correct length bolts, and everything should be good after that.

Hmmm...did the previous owner slot the header bolt holes perhaps to "drop" the header and gain more cowl clearence? (or raise it to clear the corner of the tank?) If so, be sure the new one (or the coupler or zip ties) doesn't rub the cowl belly or tank.

Minor tweaks can be done to the header bend without disturbing the internal dimension and hurting flow as long as done properly. Many ways to do this, some people fill with sand, etc. others insert a dowel... none of us probably own a mandrel bender, and even if we did, it's probably too late after the flange is welded on to use the mandrel machine. Bending carefully by hand, you can get it to budge maybe a degree or two, which would probably give any needed minimum clearence change. More than that and a proper rise header should be ordered.

Of course all this is just guess work and supposition, so I let's hope that's nothing you actually have to contend with, this is just a head's up.

That's my guess why the header became slotted, to gain some clearance inside the engine compartment.  There's also a little ding on the header, probably to help it clear the tank so the previous owner probably had space issues in the plane.

Well the dates before the week of the nats, something like the 2nd-6th, they're saying thunderstorms and hot!  Usually they're pretty good, I read a couple years ago, for Long Island to expect a hurricane during the last week of september.  That was in January that year, and sure enough the last week of september came and there was a hurricane!

Today, I got two more flights on the Ares, and the motor started detonating, so tonight we swapped it out for a newer OS 35, that I already like better, as it has more compression and a larger venturi than the one I was using.  Hopefully a test flight or two or three tomorrow!

Yea, that's we have except they're an 1/8" too short.  the new bolts and header should arrive by monday or Tuesday.

Today we took the plastic tank out of my Oriental Plus because I'm sick of it, and cut into the wing to get enough room for a 6 ounce metal tank.  We reinforced everything after we cut it out and put a box in it.  That took well over half a day.  And tonight, I tried out the new OS 35 in the Ares.  This motor has more compression, runs better, and has more power than the other one I had in it.  Just need to add some tailweight because I couldn't put a tongue muffler on it.  Also grandpa flew it tonight and he really liked the way it flew!!

The Pizza King thing cracks me up.  I have lived in the Muncie area my whole life and I love Pizza King pizza.  They ship those pizzas in dry ice all over the country and when my brother visits from Wisconsin the first place his family wants to go eat is Pizza King.  Its just funny to hear comments about Muncie from people from other parts of the country.  Safe travels and good luck at the Nats.
