2024 F2b world championship - Anyone heard any rumors of where it might be held?

Hi -

A friend of mine who was at the Worlds this summer claims to have heard that the US might be hosting in 2024.  Is there any truth to this?  To me this makes no sense, from the rest of the world's perspective Europe is more centrally located and I was under the impression that it would be in Europe once again.

While we think another US Worlds make perfect sense,  I have heard from a reasonable source it may be between Spain and Mongolia....It would make sense to keep it out of eastern Europe for a while.....

Rumors I heard were Mongolia, Bulgaria, and Spain. Bulgaria and Spain did it before and, so I heard, had substandard stunt circles. 

The only evidence I saw of the Ukraine strife in Poland was a couple of t-shirts. We had no trouble getting a hotel room in Krakow, where Poland was putting up refugees. I wouldn’t worry about having the contest in Eastern Europe.

Europeans were enthusiastic about a Muncie world champs, despite having to fly here with their models. They liked the 2004 contest here and they like the AMA site.

If Spain is the host and the control line complex at Valladolid is the the site and is unchanged from several years ago, there is one paved circle for F2B, although it is just large enough for 21.5 meter lines.  There was a fence and a pole just beyond that radius that did not allow enough room for the judges to locate there if the wind dictated their location.  If the pilot was to wander from the center of the circle more than a few fee and was using maximum length lines, he would be in that fence or pole.  Besides that, the circle was not level.  For qualifications, a nice grass soccer field was used that had to be mowed every morning before competition started but still was a problem for some fliers for their take off and/or landings.  That soccer field had a"concealed rock" of sufficient size that caused a problem for one of our team members hurting his landing score.  He still qualified for the finals, but the officials there did not seem to care about the unseen obstacle.

All part of the joys in flying at the World Championships.

I would say that generally speaking Europeans make the bulk of the competitors so in that sense, hosting it in Europe again made sense.  That is it.

Fred - I would not mind having seen the C/L fields in the middle of cities like you guys have in Brazil.

I see your reasoning-sort of.  If it were in the US you'd see many more than usual US pilots try for the team since the travel isn't going to be prohibitive,  but we don't have a dozen countries taking up the same land mass, each fielding a team.  It does though seem like it becomes more of another local contest for those who are always close to it.  We are always told of field conditions and flying sites that are not what they should be for such an important event.  Has it become something too common for that region that there isn't enough interest to better find/develop a site for it?  Perhaps new venues would be inspired to go all out to provide the best facilities..

There was in inquiry about a US World's for 2024, but the conditions have not change regarding the conclusion at to why to not hold them in the US at Muncie. The FAI is not willing to change their stance.

Also, it's a chicken and egg thing. The bulk of competitors are Europeans, because the contest is held in Europe. Move it, and the demographics will change.

In the spirit of fairness, Australia & New Zealand deserve a turn every few decades.  Travel is about loading & unloading, not the time in the air.

Based on pure politics, Europe can have it all the time.
